2021 Way to use a steam Version with an non-steam account?

For some games I bought later a steam version only to have the launcher there. (ESO for example)

Is there any way to do this for FF14? I tried it with the steam trial download but if you login it shows that you account is not an "steam service account" or something.

What happen if you completely overwrite the steam downloaded launcher (steamapps folder) with the non steam launcher (from the non-steam exe)? Same happen?

PS: If you ask why: Its a mix of having it always in you library, a full speed download, real steam features like time tracking etc.

Idk if I get exactly what you are asking but the steam version is completely separate from other versions. If you buy on steam, everything goes through steam, if you buy direct, well its all direct. So if you want a steam version or have it connect to steam, as far as I know, you need to buy it via steam, if you don't, go to the SE store, Amazon, etc.

imo the non steam version is leaps and bounds better to have since its not locked to steam, you do not need to buy everything via steam, if steam suddenly goes down for any reason you still have the game and you don't need to worry about any blips in steams system.

I know this and already use a non-steam service account for FF14. But I would like it to use this account with the steam downloaded version in my library.

I tested it and bought the steam version.

    Short version:
There is no way to login with a non-steam account.

    Long Version:
The steam version uses 1:1 the same launcher files. The only difference is that steam launches the exe it with a "-IsSteam" argument (https://steamdb.info/app/39210/config/) that can't be removed without some extra tools. If you login its always says that the account has no service account for the platform (steam).

I have no glue why SquareEnix don't let us simple login with any account. So people can buy the starter version on steam if they want. Elders Scrolls Online has many dead license keys because many players does this when the steam version was released.

10€: 7€ to SquareEnix for nothing, 3€ to Steam for 50mb download and steam features. Its a winwin for SE.

I guess, they have a contract with Valve that the Steam version must be separate from the launcher version.

    Cheers

Most likely this. That way you have to give valve money when you buy anything for the game since you MUST do it via steam.
