Confusing Restricted Names

I made Moses one time and when I tried to name him Moses it wouldn't let me so I had to name him Oldtestament Prophet.

I would be very surprised if "Moses" was the problem, unless there's some extra meaning to the name that I'm not aware of either.

Did you try it with any other surname options? More likely it was spelling something obscure between the end of the forename and the start of the surname.

If I was creating a game I would blacklist names of famous religious figures because sometimes people use those names with the intention to cause offence. I have seen that sort of thing happen already in other games. It's much less of a headache for game customer service and players to deny access to those sort of names, than to risk the fallout that can happen from their misuse. Especially if an incident became famous in social media.

I could understand "Thule Society" as a phrase being banned, but not just the word on its own.

I never heard of it either, I'm kind of surprised the GMs would have even thought to ban it. I'm guessing there's a story there.

That's an incredibly silly restriction, because that is still a name people have today. Imagine being told your own damn name is not allowed because it's a restricted term.

I'd take a shot in the dark that it may be due to the Muslim Religion Moses is a revered prophet and they ban the use of religious figures in anything. There was a whole thing with them banning the movie Noah due to Noah being a prominent figure in the Quran. Not saying it's the reason but it could be possible.

It was years ago so I can't remember what I put for the other name but I think I might have put Exodus as the last name cause it won't let u just use one name, either that or Prophet, but nothing crazy so not sure why it didn't work.

With all the crazy censorship goin on nowdays I wouldn't be surprised, if u can think it then I'm sure somewhere somebody can get offended by it lol.

That definitely sounds like it would have been the issue. People have had similar issues in the past where they post their unaccepted name and you can see there's a blocked word split across the two halves of the name.

If you have the in-game profanity filter switched on you'll also see it blocks things split across multiple words, sometimes even blocking bits of system messages, probably to stop people from s p a c i n g i t o u t to bypass the filter.

There's also Thule in Everquest. Two zones use the name among other things, and I think one of the gods. As well as an expansion pack.

Some restrictions are dumb. Like in wow, you can't use certain colors as names for pets. Yet someone was allowed to name a gorilla after a certain US president. And no, it wasn't the orange one.
