Its also why server instability has been so difficult to fix over this last patch, they are working with split resources, and obviously XIV is going to draw the short stick. When you have deadlines to meet on *both* ends of the floor, it can be really hard to push out non-buggy content. Ppl want 2.0 on time, that means XIV has to proceed more or less on time. Its a nightmare of a situation SE put themselves in, all for delivering players an MMO that meets expectations.

As far as XI goes, I have no idea why that was so bad. Then again, you had an MMORPG noob designing it. That might have been the problem.
FFXI was my first true MMO back in 2003, so anything I would consider funny today did not go through my mind back then, that is just how I thought it worked, and during that time, that how MMO's worked in general since they were still in their uprising phase.

I do agree with you however, they are very limited on what they can do to 1.0 due to the budget heavily catering to 2.0. My only complaint is not being able to spot out "obvious" flaws in battles. I am not a developer however, so I won't pretend to know how things work there. I will just do the "Deal with whatever I have to right now", and know 2.0 will most likely be much, "much" better than what we have right now.
