    A Relic Reborn. Seriously?

Wow. As a lvl 54 White Mage I just completed the PITA quest that is A Relic Reborn only to find that the resulting weapon I got (Thyrus) is far inferior to the weapon I already had acquired. (Yagrush).
Add to that the fact that this quest is broken. Got stuck for awhile until I googled it and found out there are things you have to do which you are never directed to do in the quest log. Namely traveling back to the Walking Sands in-between the three "hard" dungeons and talking to an NPC there to advance and get the Dungeons added to the Duty Finder. The post I found that information in was from 2013. In 8 years no one has fixed this quest? That quest was the first thing I have discovered in this game that was such a turn off I was contemplating whether I wanted to continue at all. Thank goodness the reward is worthless. (Except maybe as a glamour. It does LOOK cool)
Maybe I should just stick to my new hobby, Chocobo Racing. At least I'm good at that.
(PS. Why doesn't this forum let you indent your paragraphs with a couple of spaces? That Technology to far advanced?)

Also wondering why it shows my character as level 49 to the left of my post when it has been lvl 54 for some time now.

(EDIT) Looked at another post I made and came back and now I see myself listed as lvl 54. WTF? Could we upgrade this software to something from the 21st century please and thanks!

The level 50 relic looks great for glamour. I typically stop enhancing it once the bit to cause it 'glow' has been applied. And yeah -- it is suitable for glamour and not much else at this point.

You are told that you need the ingredients you get from those three dungeons, although it is left to you to figure out how to get to them. If memory serves from my recent run-through for this, they at least put a blue quest marker on them. Back in the day, when there was nothing further to do except story-patches, it was probably easier to encounter the quests and go for it.

As far as I know, the ARR relic quest had been designed for "community discovery". In other words, the information about what to do was left intentionally vague so the player community had to figure out what to do and share the information with each other, forcing players who are doing it when it's no longer current content to go to third party sources.

It is also a multistage upgrade process (which is true of all relic weapons of every expansion). The initial stages are never "good" compared to other weapons available, and the intermediate stages lag slightly behind other weapons made available at the same time. It's only the final stage that is best for its expansion of release.

You're effectively on stage 1 now. The progress path for the WHM weapon is Thyrus - Thyrus Atma - Thyrus Animus - Thyrus Novus - Thyrus Nexus - Nirvana - Nirvana Zeta

Unless you're going to use one of the versions for glamour or want to see the story related to an expansion's relics, none of the relic weapon quest chains is worth doing. The useful life span of the final version is only a few months if even if you complete it when it's current content. It's months of effort to get something that's only marginally better than other available weapons. The relics exist to give players a long grind as content filler at end game.

This is how I remember it, having done it at the time. Also the same way they presented Eureka etc. ARR Relic in particular hasn't aged well as the community has moved on. In particular, in those days the community aspect of the game was more front and centre with no Party Finder/Raid Finder etc. Free Companies were nearly essential to getting this type of content done. As we've gravitated away from that type of gameplay, the community has moved more to Linkshells and 3rd party platforms to communicate and interact. For old content, Google is typically your friend sadly..

The finished white mage relic is worth it imo. Nirvana Zeta is absolutely gorgeous. However I recommend holding back on doing until you are lvl 80 so you can speed up many parts of the grind.

It's not broken, you just never unlocked the dungeons required.

That's like saying blue mage is broken because you never unlocked the lighthouse, so you can't get the blu spell.

I choose to be positive today, so theres a silver lining OP. You might not know it, but beating those 3 "hard mode" primals is a requirement to advance into the Heavensward expansion. You could have unlocked them immediately after defeating the Ultima Weapon and the following cutscenes(including the credit roll), but the game doesnt check to see if youve finished them until youre only about 2 or 3 quests away from the entrance to the expansion. So having them done early means you wont hit a roadblock later. Similarly, the game requires you to complete the Crystal Tower alliance raid series, and the place itll stop you is roughly the same. So if you havent started those yet, it might be a good idea to add them to your to do list. The quest to start those is in Mor Dhona.

As a heads up, I highly HIGHLY recommend not doing the Zodiac weapon quests until you are level 60 or higher. You'll be running SOOO much Tam Tara, and the easier it is to unsync solo, the more your sanity will be protected.

You should never craft an outdated relic for stats anyway. The weapon you can get with poetics is only sliiightly worse than the finished relic weapon AND you likely won't even be doing any hardcore content with said weapon. So for relics from old expansions, either get them for glamour or don't get them at all.

You do get more achievements for acquiring more relic weapons, but like others have said, they otherwise only really matter for glamour at this point if they're not the newest versions.
