Some people wish FFXIV is be old world (Earth) style clothing but this is not Earth nor is it old world - it's a hotchpotch of cultures and technology with magic.

"Modern" clothing is probably ancient clothing rediscovered from writings found before some calamity.

Honestly there's far more mounts that by the same logic would be '' immersion breaking ''.
Outside of the story I have a hard time being immersed in MMO's to begin with because of the mere existence of other players.
Both in how many they are and also what they're doing and how they behave, unless maybe you play on a RP server where everyone takes it really seriously.
There sure are a lot of WoL's running around...
It's the same in WoW too I have a hard time to really feel like '' the Champion '' because there's a billion of us.

Like I sorta got into before, what happens in the story is one thing and should be consistent ( there is still modern clothing tho... ).
But outside of that you gotta give players some room to have fun.
Not everything in the game is always meant to be '' canon '' at all times, that's why we literally have cars in the game...

Then it's going to "fix"2. Make more npc's wear this glams/gear. Then it be normal part of the world.

In WoW, you're not anyone special, you're a general soldier/mercenary. They sometimes act like you're more important, but then it gets left behind in the next expansion anyway (Draenor's garrisons, Legion's order halls, etc), so it's not really consistent.

I understand the implications the above statement means. Once you've played enough JRPGs where the MC and friends start off in a "primitive/medieval" setting and most often times, the villains are the ones coming from some high-tech world/realities and your party is the one mostly wielding "medieval" style weapons and magic against those enemies, this becomes the "immersion" they speak of. I get it, I really do. FF16 is coming, which I know is gonna please people who love this sort of immersion. But FF14 does not restrict itself to that immersion, even if it started mostly looking like that. And believe me, it didn't change to necessarily please a modern crowd of gamers. Eorzea is simply a world of primitive residents who can use magic, living amongst some nations which have advanced further than they have and the only reason the "medieval" immersion is so reinforced is because that's essentially where you start. Had our MC started in say, Garlemard or Sharlayan, the immersion narrative would've shifted to "modern" and "futuristic".

No, there is no issue here. This is an mmorpg, with a wide variety of themes, and even many of the more "modern" glams try to stay in-universe. Understand that, as an mmorpg, players are going to have vastly different tastes, and whether it's a "modern" glamour or not, there are going to be other potential immersion breaking items, or combinations worn by players. I see no reason for there to be a "hide glamour" option, nor should one be added for this reason. The only viable reason for this sort of addition would be for performance related issues - which I don't even think is actually necessary for this game either. Even then, "hiding glamour" specifically would only cause other supposedly immersion breaking issues, like mismatched gear, and while some may like the charm of that from classic WoW or whatever, I think that is also a cause for concern if "immersion breaking" is actually an issue for a player.

This is not really directed at you...more an agreement to your post but also examples that what you're saying is already is happening.

I mean, yeah..most people are talking about T-shirts/jeans/fanny packs when they say modern...buuuuuut a number of characters already do wear what is technically modern glamour:

-Rowena was kinda infamous for having her outfit changed to the newest level 1 glamour including things like the leopard print bikini top (just google "Rowena outfits")
-The Garlean Empire in general
-Most of the iron works have some form of semi-modern fashion.
-The Sky Pirates, while I would argue are not "modern" in the most modern sense, are wearing very Steam Punk/Diesel Punk inspired garb; some of which is very Mad Max.
-Debatable, but some of the Scions in general wear fashion that is most certainly modern or semi-scifi more than it is fantasy.
-Blue Mage, is essentially a really gaudy suit and tie with a cape.
-The newer NPCs around the Ocean Fishing docks have fairly modern glamour and/or the new dyes.
-Gold Saucer in general (butler suits, bunny girls, etc)

...and on top of that, aside from Rowena the devs rarely change an NPC's outfit..so once a new set of glamour appears, it will only typically be seen on future NPCs (like Ocean Fishing).

...all that said, yeah, they could absolutely do more as the game expands.

I did when I played Tera and there people ran with bathtub ducks on their waist and had a microcar.

Non of the modern looking glams in 5.x even try to stay in universe. In the past the did and it was good. There the old leather jacket dps gear (lvl 50 something) that got the modern but fantasy look to it. Then there the new leather jacket that got no connection to ff at all,but it do look well made. If any thing lots of 4.x glams and gear looking wat better
