One of the first things I saw when I first logged in and walked through Gridania was a male roe in a leopard-print speedo and a moogle head and shoes doing the Manderville on top of a lamp post. What's immersion?

dont worry, i dont get offended by anything or anyone- all goodwritten like a true WoW player.
figured I should edit this so you dont get insulted. All I am saying and meaning is, this is a new game to you. There will be many unfamiliar things and terms, just because they are not your WoW terms does not make them better, or worse, just means they are different. Trying new things is good, helps you understand what you like or dislike in a game. We were all new here at some point, so while many may not display that well, we do understand that change can be frightening. All you can do, is to embrace it and try to have a good attitude when you meet others. No one will laugh at you in game if you slip up and call it a transmog, though, its likely they may not know what you are talking about. If you can patiently explain that to them, it will go a long way
In the end, whether you decide to stay or go, hopefully you manage to enjoy some aspect of the game.
It is a game where we can all express our very ownfinalcurrent fantasies, as "can't IRL but i wish I could" fantasies.
Because of that, it is impossible for everyone to "match" others fantasies; those won't always match yours. Some would like to see lalas everywhere, others nude catgirls, etc.
I do understand the "immersion issue" and, could it bring a base for roleplay people - a ravaged world where refugees struggle to survive, where locals wear traditional clothes, etc. - I believe that being able to toggle off others glams is a very interesting option.
Because we're not supposed to be surrounded by "Saviors of the world" ("Saviors of the world" EVERYWHERE), we're supposed to be the Neo in the Matrix.
Well, Neo is kinda dark-goth-a-little-classy-yet-too-much so can't argue with his clothes, he's stating his fantasies himself...
Hum. Well, for roleplay issues, a "toggle off others glams" option just turns a personal issue into a personal setting. Can't do better.
Steady 60fps everywhere? Post your CPU/GPU/Limit!

A lot of the modern-looking clothing is clothing that is supposed to exist in Eorzea and that you can find NPCs wearing.so i know its not a new topic and all but it need to be talk of much more.
the all the time incising amount of modern looking glams killing any immersion in the game. now yes there was modern looking gear/glam in the past as ell, but all of it got a fantasy touch. but in 5.x we got just normal modern looking glams that got no fantasy element to them.
now there 2 ways to "fix this problem"
1. make it so people can turn off glams from other players.
2. add more npc's to the world that wear this glams/gear.
what you think of this, you see it as a problem or don't care. how you will fix it , take them out is not a good fix as there people that do like them.
Fantasy covers a lot of things, not only the typical pseudo-medieval worlds, but also many other types of worlds. So the modern-looking gear is no less "fantasy" than the chainmails.
Honestly a lot of the clothes they wear look straight up sci-fi.A lot of the modern-looking clothing is clothing that is supposed to exist in Eorzea and that you can find NPCs wearing.

Look at Alphinaud in Stormblood, he even has a tie.
A lot of other characters and Jobs look like they're wearing sci-fi clothes too and are clearly taking inspiration from irl, then you've got stuff like Gaia who's basically straight up gothic lolita.
I don't even think that the more '' normal '' clothes in the game are what you typically see and there's only a handful of them.
Even stuff like butlers and maids already exist in the game too, considering that people are already fighting unarmored canonically etc if the WoL chooses to wear a maid or butler outfit then why would that even be a problem?
If people could there would be those who would.
People back in the day did bling their armor out in ways that technically made it '' less practical '' and did wear it in combat still, because people have always loved to show off.
And considering the fetishization of the male body back then if people could run into combat naked they probably would lol..
I mean people do it irl still too with fancy cars, watches or if they've got a nice body etc people love to be admired and brag.
If the WoL can basically wear whatever they want and still be effective then it's not that hard to believe that you'd see what you see.
Like would stuff like heels be immersion breaking in a game like Mordhau ( regardless of the other silly stuff in that game ).
Sure.
But it's not immersion breaking in FFXIV because it's clearly established that it's fine and works.
It's not like characters are shown being held back by it and still for some reason choosing to wear it, it's not treated as strange or ineffective at all.
My man how i agree with you.
agreed! whant see true imersion? take a look in tabletop games and leave the rest for imagination. A good GM make wonders with your mind with storytelling.I dont see glams as immersion breaking at all personally.
I guess I dont see much "immersion" coming from a game on my screen, that I have to press keys to move my character or chat
what people wear doesnt affect me except gives me something to giggle about if their idea of "fashion" is much different than mine.
thats truly about it.
until they bring in virtual reality and teh suits from "ready player one" immersion is not really a thing in my mind.
