You mean like when Stormblood launched and they told PS3 players they had no choice but to upgrade to the next console to keep playing?
yes, and its highly likely that they had data showing that with the PS$ being out, that number of PS3 players was relatively small. lets face it, MOST console players upgrade relatively fast compared to pc players. PS3 came out in 2006, PS4 came out in 2013 and Stormblood was 2017. I think there was a reasonable expectation that the PS3 should be able to be dropped since it was outside a 10 year date AND that the PS4 had been out for 4 years. I think they should drop support for Windows 7 and earlier. In fact, they gave out Win 10 for free, so drop everything prior to Windows 10. at the VERY least, announce their intention to. Thankfully Endwalker is dropping Win 7, so hopefully we DO get changes. (that will affect Steam users with almost 9% still using Win 7, I smh)
Console launches are always a slow upgrade process as players tend not to upgrade until there are titles on the system they want to play. It took me a couple years after the PS4 launched before I bought one because there was nothing worth playing to encourage me to purchase the console. Even now, while I have a PS5 because I got contacted directly by Sony offering me to buy a unit directly from them, if not for that and the global shortage, there would be nothing on that console worth upgrading to it. FFXIV is currently the only game I play on my PS5. And to the Stormblood launch, I know at least a half dozen people from my FC at the time who had to purchase the new console specifically so they could continue playing FFXIV.yes, and its highly likely that they had data showing that with the PS$ being out, that number of PS3 players was relatively small. lets face it, MOST console players upgrade relatively fast compared to pc players. As to the original post topic, I think "SFW" is too subjective for the developers to go with. While the original poster says that it would just be graphical updates, there will eventually be someone who thinks that one mod is completely fine while another thinks its lewd or vulgar. Think maybe a mod that dramatically increases breast sizes. Or many a mod that adds blood to weapon hits. Square, in a smart attempt to avoid having to define where that line is, simply states all mods are against the terms of service.
