The Single Most powerful *thing* in FFXIV?

The game has a lot of encounters whether they be canonical in lore or Fanfictions made up by a wandering minstrel I pose the question

"What is the most devastating attack/spell/attack ever used in the game"

The Ultimate Crossover from Elidibus, "UNLEASH ULTIMA", or Is it just a straight up the "Sundering Kick"?

Power Scaling is cool in any game and I am curious if we ever got an explanation of what Thing that we have seen is the most powerful? What was the most impressive feat. WoL has done? etc.

Edit: Fun Question to also ask "If every boss was put in a gauntlet and we had to crown the most powerful of them all, who would you bet on?"

A good question, but i would bet my money on Eden, since it is not only the first Sin Eater, but also the reason why the entire first Shard ended up being almost completely obliterated by a flood of light.

I doubt that any other Boss would stand a chance fighting aganist a being that renders a whole world into a lifeless state in which your very aether is being sap'd away constantly, constantly harassed by countless other sin eaters which are created by every kill the flood of light caused AND if that isn't enough, Eden also has the power of creation trough memories.

If we would consider a Bosses strengh by the amount of Players it killed, i would bet on prenerf Coincounter from Aurum Vale.

Uhh, you're making Eden out to be a bit more powerful than it actually is. The First was already precariously close to having an aetheric flood start, as there was a grain of truth to the Flood of Darkness causing other Shards to tip the other way. Eden itself is only shown to be powerful enough to affect the surrounding area, the instanced garden area where you camp in tents at first with the aetheric progress crystal(rainbow at the end).

Eden was also just Mitron, a sundered Ascian, and it couldn't direct its powers on its own. The Sin Eaters that rose because of it are comparable to Voidsent of an opposite alignment.

I'd say the most powerful beings we've dealt with are either Alexander, Hades, or Omega.

We never actually fully engaged with Alexander's full power. Just the power of Alexander Prime, its core test spirit or whatever. The fight involves Singularities and time travel in and of itself. While paradoxical, it's an extreme level of power, because if we actually had to fight Alexander as a whole... well imagine having to fight something that was capable of housing and constructing everything used in all 3 raids tiers. If Alexander didn't care about the well being of the planet/existence, and decided to just fight us to kill us, then we wouldn't stand a chance. Likely, even now.

Hades, of course, is a complete original soul from the old world, and a, "Sorceror of Eld." With creation magicks at his full disposal, the only reason we were able to beat him was due to the Exarch's plot contrivance of simultaneously summoning 7 other WoLs, on top of Ardbert fusing with us, on top of being able to use the Lightwarden Light to make a Blade of Light comprised of 5 fragmented Souls. All of that with the Scion's aid and auracite on top, which pierced his dark mantle, giving him a weakpoint for us to pierce.

Omega is an alien construct capable of rendering its own pocket dimension and creating soulless simulacrum of both fiction and non-fiction characters and creatures. More powerful than Bahamut. More powerful than Midgardsormr in his prime. More powerful than Shinryu that Zenos mantled. The only reason Omega failed to beat us, was because its child Alpha helped us, and also because Midgardsormr intervened. And then we only got the luxury of living, thanks to Hraesvelgr journeying into the Rift to save us on top of all of that.

Hmm, as far as the first question goes though, the most powerful attack, real or simulated... Well it would be Elidibus as the Warrior of Light Primal in Seat of Sacrifce (Extreme). His ultimate attack requires the use of the tank LB3 in order to survive it, and outside of enrage attacks that are all set to do damage values that outright kill you anyway... it's a survivable attack that will not be survived without the proper defense. The attack's name is Ultimate Crossover. Note its specialness as well, as it was a Limit Break Level 4, something we ourselves are not capable of doing.

I'd say the single most potent attack we've encountered is still Ultima. We've encountered beings stronger than Ultima weapon such as Omega, Hades, Alexander but they tended to demonstrate their phenomenal cosmic power in other ways than a brute force attack against us. The Ultima spell is still the only one that required Hydaelyn to protect us.

In a no holds barred gauntlet I'd say Alexander. Its hard to beat something that sees through time and manipulates it at will.

May Hydaelyn stand between you and harm in all the dark places you must walk.

This is a pretty cool answer, but Ultima required that Hydaelyn protect us, because of our power relative to the Ultima Weapon at the time (literally a mom protecting her baby). We can infer from the future weapon projects that we've outgrown that show of power now. Also bear in mind that we manifested our Blessing of Light in the fight with Hades as well, and he used an attack to engulf it and shut off our connection to Hydaelyn so that he might kill us.

Though I guess when you bring up other beings having to protect us... in Orbonne Monastery, Ultima the High Seraph using Ultimate Illusion required the souls of the 4 champions to shield us. Though when the barrier gives out, the damage from it only ticks up by 50% and it's still easily healed through, but Ramza spares us from the final blow of it.

The first thing that came to my mind were the "limitbreaks" of the Manderville-couple... my money is on Julyans frying-pan-attack, which I'm very glad was aimed at Gilgamesh, not at us.

I would put my money on alexander being our most powerful opponent but we had the luxury in that he was holding back. If raising its arm could nearly drain the Hinterlands dry on the source, that's a pretty nasty thing, thank goodness for time magic. The fact he casually mentions he could fight off bahamut also points to this and that's before we see him fighting.

Which means likely the most powerful attack could be his paradox deletion (which we avoid) or perfect alex's enrage if its killed before or after it finishes due to dot. (because you literally can't protect against something that breaks time itself to remove you from existence)

otherwise, I would go with ultima. Which you can protect against as you had an elder primal helping out. Doing so crippled hydaelyn for a bit. The wandering minstrel left out that detail though.

IIRC its either Shinryu or Omega that takes the cake of strongest thing that the WoL has fought without any outside interference (and even then omega gimps itself by turning into human form outside of savage which isn't canon). Everything else was either weakened or we had a power boost from something.

Even with the things we got help with, I don't think ultima counts because we were hella weak back then. I'd be tempted to throw my hat in for Alexander because we fight a gimped Alexander just trying to fulfill a bootstrap paradox, so an alexander just trying to kill you could probably just pull a "kill your mum" on you.

Obviously full power bahamut gets a special mention, but I seem to remember an interview saying shinryu was actually stronger, but I might be misremembering.
