    Quick question

Just hit 51 and was just curious about moving to heavensward. Was excited to move on to the next expansion then got to reading I have to do like 100 lv 50 quests just to get there. Is this true? Please tell me it isn't. I've done about 20 of them so far and not sure I can stomach another 80. Is the only path just this linear direction?

    short answer:
It is true, you have about 60 more quests before Heavensward.

    Long answer:
The initial 1-50 quests up to Ultima Weapon are from ARR.
    Heavensward was added years later.
In the meantime, FF14 was still getting updates. Over those years they added (among other things) about 100 main story quests (not counting mandatory sidequests this has now been cut down to about 80).

Between every expac there is more questing to do, though there are def more quests between between ARR and Heavensward than any other two.

This is largely because they were putting everything into supporting ARR because they didn't know if they were gonna get to make an expac at some point or if they had failed to salvage the game. Now a days they're able to start work on expacs ahead of time (heck, they're working on 7.0 as we speak), when FF14 relaunched there were not yet thinking and planning 2 expacs ahead, let alone have another in the pipeline like they can now.

Thus there is a larger gap (and more quests) between ARR and Heavensward than between any of the expacs, and, unfortunately, you'll find some of it feels like filler.

Thank you for the response. I think I'm done with this, not a bad game just isn't for me I don't think. To linear, to much talk. Thank you again.

Remember to make use of flying during your quests. Back then, we didn't have the option to fly in the ARR areas.

And as far as the quests go, most of the ones that remain have a story significance down the line, especially for Heavensward. Having a little extra gil, xp, and gear from the quests wouldn't hurt either.

First off, which wiki are you referring to? There are a few FFXIV wikis such as Consolegames and Gamerescape.

Yes, DRK starts at level 30. However, you have to clear the patch 2.1-2.55 quests and enter Ishgard to get the quest to obtain the DRK role.

Yes, you cannot become DRK until you reach level 50 with a class. Well more specifically, you cannot become DRk until you reach Heavensward, which you'll definitely be level 50 by that point.

Expansion classes always start at a lower level than the starting level of the expansion. That makes players have to spend a bit of time learning the class before jumping into new content. And the HW classes are unique in that they are MSQ gated, XIV never does that again. Starting with Red Mage and Samurai, level is all that matters (and incidentally, if you are level 50 and have Stormblood unlocked on your account, you could become a Samurai or Red Mage as soon as you hit 50).
