Store Item Suggestion : Quest Completion Token

Currently there are purchasable options for skipping all MSQ through the end of a given expansion. However, I'd like to see an item added that could be purchased to just complete/skip a single MSQ.

I imagine this feature could work one of two ways:

    1) Token purchased by a specified character

In this case, the character would be mailed invoked items that will provide a prompt to select currently active MSQ (assuming more than one active) to be skipped.

    2) Token purchased for account

Purchasing this way would add to an account "currency" (similarly to purchased retainer counter) and the player could then go to a specific NPC using any of their alts and select active MSQ to skip via NPC interaction.

In both cases, the quest would be flagged completed and removed from quest log and allowing the next quest in chain to be available to accept. Additionally, completing/skipping quest in this manner would forfeit any experience/gil/items (other than key items) which would have been rewarded from the quest. Any cutscenes which should have been encountered during the quest would not be shown, but would be added to Unending Journey as usual.

    ---

For myself at least, I'd gladly pay a dollar or two each for a token that could let me skip specifically the quests that require dungeon runs to complete. I personally am more of a solo player that especially prefers to do storyline things solo. For me, partying is more about goofing off with some friends and maybe going and challenging ourselves. Not a big fan of having to pause my progression till I can link up with friends or with hooking up with random people who are frequently in a super rush to finish the instance and leave me more or less at a loss for what just happened other than "killed stuff with cutscenes mixed in." (And then there's the groups that continue on with things while you're in a cutscene so you either end up not participating in chunks of the content - or skipping the scenes to watch later so you can participate.) Just...would like a way to skip mandatory dungeon-crawling.

I'm aware that may not be a particularly widespread point of view, but I also believe that there are likely enough people out there that would appreciate this option to make it worthwhile to consider.

I would like to hear others' thoughts on this.

You would literally pay $1-2 just to not play specific dungeons? Hell, pay me $50 and you never have to play again.

It's not to avoid playing the dungeons at all. It's to avoid needing to play the dungeons to advance the storyline.

I've been playing for approximately a month, but I'm not even to level 30 MSQ because each time I hit dungeon quests I either go mess with something else in the game or stop playing entirely while I psych myself up for random-party run.

I'd rather pay $1-2 for a quest skip over mentally torturing myself for up to a week over a petty matter. In the last 22 years of online gaming, this has been a constant - there's plenty of EQ/WoW content I've never experienced because it required groups. A thing I greatly looked forward to with FFXIV is that I was told that almost everything could be done solo and there was plenty to do other than dungeons/raids. I enjoy the storyline, so I don't want to just skip it all - I'd just like the ability to bypass mandated group quests and do group things on my own terms at some later point.

I believed there would be others who felt the same. Maybe I was wrong. Or maybe, like me, they stay well clear of forums unless they have something specific they're going there for. I don't know.

You could simply buy a story skip and then play the story with NG+ .

But also, I don't understand why you don't want to play dungeons.
When it is about playing with others then simply say some words like: "hey, new to the game and dungeon, sorry for mistakes"
You then close the chat and just play the game.
You could even place that in a macro, so you don't have to always write it.
The big majority of player's are completely understanding towards new player and the mistakes they make.

I have no idea how New Game + works, so I can't comment on that.

It's not that I don't want to do dungeons, or that I can't. I research before going and have done well enough that I've averaged 2 or better commendations per thus far. And yes, I know people are (generally) pleasant about honest mistakes and helping newbie along. I simply have severe anxiety playing with people I don't know. I'd prefer to wait and do dungeon content for some point in the future when I've recruited or otherwise worked my way into a group I'm comfortable doing group content with. But I don't want to not be able to do the rest of the main story till then.

I like to play through the story - I just don't want to deal with group-gated solo content. The store currently has the option to skip all 200+ MSQ for ARR for $11. On a simple google search, it looks like there are nine-ish non-optional dungeon runs among those. I *want* to be able to play all those other 200+ minus the nine-ish.

All the functionality for an item like I described already exists, it would just need to be coded into a game item. Unless there's something significantly wrong with the hired talents or way the game code works, scripting an inquiry on quest log, opening a dialog box with active main story quest(s) listed, and flagging quest completed into an item shouldn't even take a day for one person to do. Sure, there may be meetings where new items are discussed, the coding, testing, implementation that may involve multiple people - but the total man-hours needed to put through something like this shouldn't pass 40 even being generous. Let's also be generous and say that the involved individuals make an average of $25/hr. That's $1000 to put this through. Having this option is something that would have such a significant impact on my personal enjoyment of the game that I welcome SquareEnix to contact me directly to arrange a contract in which I'll personally pay $1000 USD to the company to cover the employee wages to do this. Yes, my random group anxiety is significant enough I'd happily pay $1000 just to unlock the *option* to purchase the ability to skip that scenario.

Yes, I get that just knocking out the dungeons isn't a big deal for most of the player base. But that's not the entire player base. It doesn't take much web searching to find people asking about the minimum number of dungeons they have to do because they don't like dungeons. Or if there is a way to skip them. Or to solo them. Etc. (Even posts in these forums on the topic.)

you and the very few people like you i hate to say are an extreme minority in the grand scope of the game. the devs are not about to create an item that will allow you to "skip" dungeons.

They're more likely to continue expanding solo play tools, like Squadrons and Trusts.
You'd be better off saving your $1K and encouraging them to continue developing those.

Sounds to me like you need to take that $1000 and go to therapy for your severe anxiety.
