Nah. I'm going to take my time with it. I'm not trying to "beat" this game. I'm just here to play. I play this game like I eat cake, nice and slow so that I can enjoy every last ounce of each moist spongy chocolate bite. mmmmmmmmmmmmm

Just think of it this way, when you do get it, it'll feel like it took you 600+ speed runs to get it. It will feel pretty special. Then you'll go on to the next incredibly low drop rate and feel discontent again. But for the ephemeral moment of pure satisfaction, remember the cake. =]

    Hi Arcell, Jinko and all,

My friend was a Top 5 Contributor on our server, and reached the 40,000 Point Score for Hamlet Defense. And spending most of the day spamming wins resulted in...

    Dark Matter.

    Not a single unique drop.

    Ouch.

The cake is a lie... but here's a cookiee! Just as yummy!

The sad thing is some people are interested in eating as many cookiees as possible and hoping to get a prize at the end. Others just want to enjoy the cookiee, bite by bite. But also, some people have nothing left to do in the world but get that prize so force feed themselves cookiees.

What we need is for more different types of cookiees for people to enjoy. All sorts of new cookiees and different cookiees that keep people busy munching slowly and enjoying, rather than having to rush to the end for some prize.

Yes... I changed this into a cookiee metaphor.

I was super super super super eager to go do Hamlet... I love my Chopper and Saw and wanted to contribute to the defense of the hamlet. I even donated some items to the cause! (Not much at all, just a tiny bit.. got 8 anima.. already had 100, so end result was nothing). But then I faced the super sadness:

No show up for hamlet battle, no reward.
Now, with sad rewards, it's going to be super super hard for me to find people who want to do hamlet battle.. they will all say: Already have Dark Matter!

Need incentive for donating -- It is not 'fun' to simply 'trade' with hamlet. That is not content.
Need incentive for battling -- Even some basic items, or long-term reward scheme
Need incentive for not-battling -- Yes, for those of us who do not want to engage in battle (for whatever reason) we should still 'benefit' from having donated items.

I would not be opposed to points gathered from hamlet mapping somehow to Grand Company seals.

It's hard to disagree with this. More cookies, and more fun things to do! =D

It took 172 Dynamis runs before I got my Duelist Chapeau. I retired XI with 30 stacks of Alex only 14/15 on Morrigan's. I /angry every Qiqirn I see in XIV. But one thing that did happen through all that time was almost every run, someone got something and I felt that what I did helped someone. That's what kept me going.

We need to see something, anything, on a regular basis, or else why bother? I went back to luminary tool achievements because the current content fails to provide benefit and fun greater than the time spent. I'd rather mine 21,960 times knowing that I'll get the pick of the luminary at the end than spam these raids for lottery drops.

I'd take a longer lockout to have a guaranteed chance at a drop, regardless if I could use it or not. I liked the loot system in WoW. When I was playing, raids had 3 or 7 day lockouts. Each boss had a static loot pool and was guaranteed to drop something everytime. Granted, it can get frustrating to see an item drop 8 weeks in a row with only so many people that can use it (with WoW anyway since you were locked into the class you were playing) but I'd rather see SOMETHING. The primals and the speed runs have really worn me down. I'd rather take a one day lockout and have a guaranteed chance at some gear, and then do some crafting or whatever else I want to do in the meantime.

i personaly like lockouts with guarenteed drops too
even though 1 day lockout is a bit low still for that to happen(3 days is a better standard imo)

also id prefer a lockout be limited by completion and not entry alone if they ever consider this

I agree the WoW lockout and drop system for raids did work well.

I don't see our current content being equal to raids though. Raids were huge instances that took 15 or 25 people. I see our instance content more like the WoW dungeons, short and repeatable that only took 5 people. If we have raid like content, I could see lockouts being worth while. Current content just doesn't seem to be on the same level.

WoW dungeons also have guaranteed level-appropriate drops. Mind you, each dungeon had anything between 3-5 bosses with their own loot pools. By those rules, each piece of darklight should be split among several bosses in a dungeon, with guaranteed drops per boss kill. It may not be the one you're looking for if the boss drops a mage piece and you're melee, but still.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

    Well they aren't.

Normal instances - Could be farmed over and over with no lock out.
Heroic Instances - Had a 24 hour reset period.
Raids - Had 7 day resets.

I would say what we currently have is similar to Heroic Instances.

I would suggest low to mid ranged content have no lock out (or leave it at 15 mins), end game dungeons/primals to have 24 hour content (increase the chance of drop rates) and then later on when we get real raid content to be 3-7 days reset timers.

If SE did go this route and have lock out periods they would no longer need timers on dungeons, as players would only be able to do each instances and raids once per day.
