In short the argument, SE has poor servers. I can buy that, they have said they are updating them for 2.0. Then I would expect this issue to minimized when 2.0 comes out.

I actually wouldn't hold your breath, obviously server will get better in 2.0 but I doubt it will stop them from making bad decisions, that being said I don't think lock outs are a bad thing, when there is more content there will be other options.
More importantly as a new player there will be more options, right now many of us are bored with Moogle and Ifrit and all we care about is the "newest" content, but I don't think new players will see it the same way.

I don't have to hold my breath. If they don't improve their ways, I will find a new game. That is all it really boils down to. I do hope they learn from their ways and from other MMOs. I would like for this game to become something awesome.I actually wouldn't hold your breath, obviously server will get better in 2.0 but I doubt it will stop them from making bad decisions, that being said I don't think lock outs are a bad thing, when there is more content there will be other options.

Timer lockouts and poor drop rates are old mechanics from much older MMOs. They do work... but not for long periods of time. Lots of us, playing currently, have faith in this game and the direction it is going. Sadly, if it fails to meet standards of the modern MMO market, our money will go somewhere else.
There are many ways to keep content fresh and wanted. They already did a few great ideas with materia and drops being trade-able for GC seals. Firefall is doing a system where doing content will open new content, for the whole server. If you don't maintain doing some of this content, some content will become unavailable. Eve Online and Dust 514 are making action in one game affect another. A battle in Dust 514 will change if a sector is under control of another group in Eve Online. GW2 has a ton going for it, I don't even know where to start.
Point being, lockout timers (for servers I'll understand) and low drop rates are poor ways to keep players playing and interested in content. I expect higher quality from a SE product, Skinner reward systems do not impress me as a player.
