From a buyer standpoint, the marketboard is a dream come true. However, trying to sell and make a profit, it is a total nightmare and a half.

I spent two days grinding my Evelyn character to the point where she has retainers and can buy emperor's new gear and sell them for a profit. She is based off of a hidden gem SNES RPG and I was hoping to earn gil to dress her in similar glam that the game that she is in. It took extra long because I went from pugilist to rogue and had to regrind to 15 with no MSQ help.

However, when I eventually got her to the point where she could buy the gear and she had retainers, I purchased six set of emperor's new gear to sell, and when I went to sell it, I found that literally every piece of emperor's new gear was going for less than what I bought it for.


I have never seen emperor's new gear go for under the amount that it is purchased from an NPC for. Normally I can resell those for 10x the NPC selling price. Usually there is big business selling emperor's new gear on the marketboard.

Worst case scenario, I just sell a piece for double what I paid for it at the lowest. I never seen emperor's new gear go for so cheap. dirt cheap.

I showed the cheap prices for the emperor's new gear to my brother-in-law and even he was shocked at how low that they were going for. He told me that people have been reselling emperor's new gear for a profit for years. He even said that he has never seen those sell for so cheap on the marketboard.

It is not just emperor's new gear that is incredibly cheap. On my Xerneas alt, I was browsing housing items for her FC chambers and out of curiosity, I looked up the Suzaku wall hanging and found that they are going for under 50k, I have never seen them go for under 1,000,000 gil. I immediately then hopped on Moltres Rider and bought five of them.

Cheap marketboard prices are definitely a double edge sword here.

Supply and demand. Supply of certain items has increased on the market board without a corresponding increase in demand so prices have dropped.

SE adjusted drop rates on EX trial materials from desynthesis plus more players are farming EX trials for the mounts now that we're at expansion end plus a lot of the crafted trial items are showing up as loot in Bozja/Zadnor lockboxes. As a result, supply of the materials has increased substantially while we haven't see a similar increase in demand for items made with those materials. Expect prices on these items to remain low until Endwalker's release when players will ignore the old content in favor of the new.

In the case of the Emperor's New glamour items, many veteran players are pricing them low on the MB so new players don't get ripped off paying thousands of gil for something that can be bought from a vendor for less than 100 gil. It could be it's a short term trend and those other players will pull out of the market before long so prices go back up.

It's a free market. Buying low with the intent of reselling high has risk if you don't pay attention to current market trends. Always check first.

Because end game crap is saturated on the market. The money is in all the low end stuff with new players atm.

Uh .. emperor's gear can be bought cheaply from an NPC.
Putting it up expensively on market board isn't too different from ripping off new players unaware of the NPC that sells them.
I know some players that actively work against that by putting it up for same/less than the NPC sells it to counter this.

Can't really comment on the other parts, but I assume it just has to do with the recent influx of players. More players playing = more stuff being sold (though could also mean more stuff being bought, depends fully on supply / demand of each respective item).

Suzaku wall hangings can be found from the Zadnor lockboxes so the market is gradually getting saturated with them.

SE seems to actively dislike older glam/furnishing items tied to treasure maps or trials retaining value and thus continues to shove them into loot from deep dungeons/exploratory fields.

There are a couple oddball items that have not gotten this treatment yet, though, so those might be worth chasing after if you're trying to make money.

Look at the price on the board before starting to buy or gather stuff to resell.

I think it's more they completely destroyed Materia has a currency and had no idea what else to stuff in loot boxes for Bozja. What's truly baffling is they didn't put Fragments in there.

As for the OP itself. Crafting as a whole became substantially easier this expansion both in endgame recipes and leveling. The result is far more supply and nowhere near enough demand. The devs seem to actively dislike high sale prices without realizing that was what many higher end crafters enjoy. Hence why Expert Recipes didn't work. That, and the grind is absurd for absolutely nothing.

It's a little annoying they've started to dip into current expansion items for lootboxes and retainer ventures now. Things like Primal weapons, Submarine minions, lv80 furniture and such. Recycling old rewards to save having to make new ones is a little cheap in itself, but you can understand it. However I feel they should at least give items an expansion or two of having some value.

I never thought I'd say it, but Extract Materia was a mistake. It's simply bonus income for bots now. Cross world hunts have also flooded the game with an endless supply of battle materia. I doubt SE intend this, because it means materia is no longer a worthwhile reward for things like beast tribe currency, scrips, dungeons, bozja boxes and so on.

It’s because they made crafting and gathering absolutely brainless this expansion. Ishgard restoration made it so everyone and their mother can have easy max level crafters so there’s way more supply than there is demand.

It is a wonderful thing: the ability to craft one's own max-iLevel gear without having to pay millions of gil for the latest-and-greatest each patch.

It wreaks havoc with the so-called economy, but there are also a heck of a lot more players at this moment than at any other time we've gotten to the last patch of an expansion. Of course prices are lower.

I expect things to take off again, pricewise, the third week of November, when the preview week of the next expansion begins.
