Mouse/Keyboard vs. Controller: Your Thoughts

Hello,

I started off with keyboard+mouse, but with the hints from Yoshi (who I beleive is a Keyboard user), I was able to configure myself to do almost everything with keyboard only. It's brilliant! Never have to take fingers off keys, quick access to everything!

The ONLY thing I am having trouble with is selecting an enemy target if there are a lot of them around. Tabbing seems to be very slow, and mouse more faster. That being said, its sometimes hard to click on the target even if its in front of you, so it's a loose/loose situation. (I hear they will make enemy targetting easier in 2.0!)

Note, I play WHM/BLM so may have different needs than others.

(So happy when I mapped ALT-M to 'micro menu'. When being raised, I just go: ALT-M, <enter>, <enter> and I'm up!)

If you are having difficulty adapting to the keyboard, please spend some time looking through the configuration menu and find/create bindings that suit you.

Also dig around somewhere for Yoshi's post on his targetting setup, it works great!

Start FFXIV with keyboard, after changed to controller, rather not play it when my controller is down . KB strictly for F1-F8 and chat.

I played XI with keyboard only. I play XIV with Mouse+Keyboard because it has a hotkey bar. I own a razer naga and i'm quite used to using it for all PC games. So I've spent the first few days working out keybindings for all my most used actions, rebound confirm to E and my gear/inventory/journal/skills menu keys as well as confined my UI to much of the lower part of the the screen for ease of click. Its working out for me so far.

Whatever you get used to is the best to use.. Personally I think its a lot easier with controller just to control moving and camera with dual analog

How do you chat o.o!

I'm always chatting everywhere, but can not imagine how I would do that if I'm using a controller. Are you all very good with on screen keyboard? Or do you keep putting controller down? How do you manage to fight and chat at the same time o.o!

I use a keyboard and g400 mouse. Whatever isn't on the first skill bar and within easy reach of my left hand is programmed into my mouse buttons and ctrl/alt macros. All target selection is precise point and click with a mouse (rarely tab target) and healing is just a matter of clicking the life bar in the party menu to select. It is easy to use since I have it all customized the way I want it, but the initial set up has a bit of a learning curve.

I use Keyboard only, It's really awesome and like some have, do everything in a single button press.

Targetting, Menus, Actions, just about everything can be done with the new shortcuts SE gave us a few patches ago.

Peolple have their own way of playing though, and this is mine

Controller looks good, but I'm just not used to playing Computer games with controller. I use Controller for Console games only.

I'm a PC gamer, have been since the N64 days. I use a KB/Mouse for pretty much anything. I do however use a controller when i'm not doing anything requiring a great amount of keys and such. Like crafting for example, or running around turning in local leves. But combat or anything involved, KB/Mouse. I even have two of my mouse's thumb buttons set to move the action bar up and down so I can switch between all my skills rather quickly. Too bad it doesn't work with the macro bars.
