Downside to being on Aether now

I suspect that Crystal will soon be more stressed than Aether and they'll shift the lockdown to there but it still disrupts ppl trying to join their friends on the same server. As for new servers, they have so far only indicated they can't get any at present and so may well be some time next year before they can expand capacity.

I am having the issue where my playing got my friends interested. They wanted to play with me joined, bought the game but now they can’t make a character on my DC at all so we can’t play together unless i make an alt off my DC and I don’t really want to. I mean to be fair i did warn them that Aether would be locked, but they did not heed my warnings.. as if I would deliberately say that to keep us from playing together xD silly.. i have another friend who is wanting to join me but can’t that did listen to my warning and he was a bit disappointed..

Lol the one time i have real friends that actually want to join me in an mmo and I can’t really have them unless I completely start over with nothing .

Aren't your friends starting from the beginning too? Starting a new character and maybe new job would mean you could all level together rather than your friends rushing to catch up. Just a thought.

And why would Crystal be congested soon? I thought we were all Tumblr SJWs that ERP. You'd think people would want to avoid that and go to Primal instead.

I mean sure, but i would have to choose a class type they did not both chose which is DPS, I don’t tank so i would have to roll heals to which I already am a white mage main class. I also don’t really want to reroll on a new DC after being on this one for so long.. Faerie has been my characters home since the end of ARR and while yes i only played a couple months and didn’t resub again till last month i still kind of feel attached.. plus i have other friends here on Faerie that HAVE played consistently since ARR launched that I wouldn’t dare ask to uproot.. Without my current friends on Faerie our entire initial idea would be broken. The whole running dungeons and potentially raids as a whole group wouldn’t happen..

That said i am not entirely upset about it or anything lol they were warned.. it is simply a bit inconvenient. This is a game. I never take things so seriously.. besides the idea is on the table of them just buying a character transfer if and when they can later on. Catching up with me is easy, i am pretty casual. I am sure it will turn around on me being the one to “catch up” lol..

I had the reverse experience actually. I had forgotten where my friend was playing, when he told me the server i told him i couldnt make any character there because of congestion, and he said his was no longer congested, so i made a character there asap. Then 10 days later server gets closed. /phew
