Are level 50 command missions actually useless XP wise?

Check the xp per kill yourself. its less.

Lvl cap dungeons give little exp per kill, because they aren't meant to level you (they originally give 0 exp... because you are at level cap). They are just additions at level cap, same as .1-.5 patch quest exp after level cap increases when new expansions come out. They give some exp, but not much.
