But by all means, continue fighting tooth and nail for a cause that no one in this thread is preventing you or anyone else from championing. If you want to defend the children and spend your days worrying about them, stalking everyone until you can determine their A/S/L to make sure they're not too young and further determine, with your likely limited expertise, whether or not they're being groomed and/or gaslit, then feel free.

But not everyone is going to take up the mantle, and not everyone's going to appreciate that style of policing.

Bottom line: if you feel like someone is doing something that they shouldn't be doing, report it. If the GMs determine that they are, in fact, doing it, and that it is something that they shouldn't be doing, then they'll take necessary steps to take care of the situation. Most likely, however, if you can't prove someone's doing something, or if what you think they're doing is not actually being done, or if they determine that what they are doing is, in fact, not against the rules, then likely nothing will happen to them.
If you take matters "into your own hands," however, then don't be surprised if you're met with resistance, and don't be surprised if nothing meaningful actually happens. Even moreso if you're not actually going to do it yourself and are waiting for everyone else to do it for you.

Until and unless you can actually prove someone is doing the thing you're saying is happening, and especially until someone does something that specifically aims to maliciously harm the game and/or it's players, there's no cause to do something specifically about the issue that isn't already being done by a majority of players, both in and out of the community you're trying to generally accuse.

Clearly the adult did not have the intent the groom said individual. Now if the adult kept at it even after finding out they were a minor that is a different story. Though realistically what can SE do to prevent such situations from happening? It will always be reactive the action happens they will need to report said action to SE and possibly local authorities. What else does anyone expect a company and a community to do? Screen people on the mod discord ask for proof of age? That will not work since it is easy to get a fake ID. Block all mods? Still would not work cause trust me people will find work arounds. Even getting rid of all the NSFW hinted PF groups would not work they would simply just operate through discord and will just post discord links in PF.

Also please do not take what I am saying as defending the intentional seeking of engagement with minors. What I am saying though is a proactive approach to such things is not possible for a community to do. I will say yes if the potential harm to children does bother someone then maybe this is not the right game / community for them.

Though I will willing to admit that my view is rather dark considered I do not feel much sympathy or share much empathy for so it is hard for me to really understand exactly what you are feeling or a potential victim would be feeling.

There are people that intend to groom. You keep falling back on the minor being a liar line to make it sound that the people that ERP with a minor are all or even mostly doing so unintentionally and the minor is the real culprit. You are giving groomers every excuse in this thread to cover their tracks. "They lied to me" is all they have to say, because that is all you think they should have to say if caught. According to you, that is what the community must accept as okay. It's not. There are 18+ clubs that knowingly 'employ' minors.

Complaining about the fake ID thing is nonsense as is complaining about an altered voice in Discord. It's much easier to type in a false age than to do either of those things.

Again, no one is saying there aren't bad actors out there. What a lot of us is trying to say is that their presence doesn't mandate the obliteration of RP. Grooming otherwise does not happen without mutual communication, which ties back into the responsibilities of a parent or guardian to instruct an individual on online behaviors. No one under 18 should be responding to an ASL query, fact or fiction. If the person on the other end keeps pressing the issue, you block them and possibly report. It's literally that simple.

Of course, I also understand that kids can feel lonely and misunderstood. Someone on the internet paying attention to them may seem like a good thing. Especially if they called them funny, smart, cute, or some other compliment. This does not invalidate the above, and should stress that if personal information is a requirement for friendship, that should be seen as a red flag. Otherwise, the expected relationships in a game like this should be finding people you're compatible with for running content and completing specific tasks together. Occasionally venting that you've had a bad day is okay. Talking about what you ate for dinner is cool, too. Giving your measurements, not so much.

I think what some may also fail to realize is that ERP is a grossly inefficient way to predate and those so inclined are more likely to be sitting around an aetheryte sending a tell to anyone that meets their criteria, hoping for a bite. The same rules of defense apply, but with this knowledge in mind, should we petition for the removal of the tell function? How about party and FC chat? After all, you "never know what's being said," right? What conveniences are you willing to sacrifice in this made up war? Or are we just attacking the things other people like that aren't doing harm? Again, RP and mods aren't going away. You don't have to like them, that's fine. Fortunately none are mandatory, though I can't say the same of mods for other games.

Things happening in a video game is very low on the list or priorities of issues we should be addressing if the actual care of children/teens is paramount, but that's a descent into real world politics that won't go anywhere here.

It is basically true. Those mods are technically client modifications. And you can use client modifications for cheating. The problem is, it is not clear for which purpouse a mod serves. So Square Enix does not permitt them all.

So don't be suprised when some day they permaban your account for violating the ToS.
