The development team have a pretty strong track record of resorting to heavy handed measures to solve issues that result in poor optics for the game. That's why, for example, the ability to type in Feast was removed entirely. Not that it did much to stop annoying spam - because some people just resort to spamming 'Nice job!' instead of typing out abuse. Though as far as the development team are concerned, it's a win because now Feast matches are streamed without people having meltdowns.

Equally, streamers have been banned for engaging in trash talk on their streams as well even where PvE content is concerned.

The use of NSFW mods has become very brazen and some people have been banned for bragging about their use/showing them off on third party sites.

Barring the implementation of something to check that the game client isn't being altered in any way, it is of course not likely that the problem can be stamped out entirely. With that said, everybody agreed to the terms of service when they made their account so I'm not sure what's so difficult about admitting that if those terms are breached, punishment can be dished out.

That's a rather disingenuous approach to the concerns raised when there's literally people throughout this thread arguing in favour of exposing minors to NSFW content, claiming that nude art of minors is acceptable and that people with an attraction to minors should be allowed to seek 'relief' online.

This isn't a case of a moral panic over nothing. There's no smoke without fire and the fact that this discussion has been had multiple times is very telling in itself.

I think this is a good thing that people go on crusades against paedophiles, shutting your mouth on such things marks you as assisting, your post is terrible and far worse then whom you accuse worse then the NSFW modders if you are playing down people wanting to crusade against pedos.

I think Battle may have just worded their sentence oddly. I'm left with the impression that they're anti-pedo and are critiquing the people who are 'crusading on their - the pedophiles - behalf'.

Given that posters have been banned for far less, I'd suggest that anybody advocating for illegal content to be embraced should receive a forum ban at the very least. Beyond that, as I've suggested elsewhere a greater presence on the part of our community representatives would arguably help deter the presence of discussion threads such as this one that go completely off of the rails.

FFXIV is a fun game and I enjoy playing it for the most part. It's not perfect and I certainly have my beef with it from time to time but unless it drops the ball with Endwalker I'm very likely to continue playing it for as long as it maintains my interest. With that in mind, I'd rather not see the game itself suffer because of a vocal minority of players becoming so brazen that they feel the need to actively promote things that they have agreed not to do.

Perhaps nothing will happen, though without going too deep into the debate there's proposals in some countries to tie people's online activities to their finances and other aspects of their lives.

Whether that actually manifests remains to be seen, of course, but stranger things have happened and I feel it is important for people to think ahead!

At least Yoshi hasn't just dismissed it as a "moral panic" and has outright asked players to stop doing it as per Fukuro's post...

Addendum—On Adding Younger-Looking Playable Characters
Among some of the feedback we received were requests for playable characters that resembled young boys and girls. Unfortunately, this is one request we cannot consider for ethical reasons.

With every passing year the debate surrounding moral and ethical issues in games grows more intense, and we do not want to present children in battle or in pain—and posing such characters sexually and taking screenshots and so forth would be expressly forbidden.

In any event, regardless of what our players did or did not intend to do, the fact remains that if a review board were to evaluate such content and determine it were unacceptable, we would be forced to suspend FFXIV’s service. We ask that you keep these factors in mind as we strive to abide by the changing standards of the times.

And I totally agree with you. Pedophiles and child-groomers deserve no less than rotting in prison. The problem is where you want to execute that crusade and it also involves the contribuition of all parties.
Don't want your children to be involved with pedophiles on the internet? Oversee them. Make sure they don't visit sites they shouldn't.
Want to fight pedophilia? Report actual cases to your authorities.
Complaining about pedophilia on an online forum for a videogame is as effective as blue/pink-haired women complaining about gender equality on the internet when there's places in this world that treat women like cattle.
I support the fight, I just don't think it's the correct place to spearhead such crusade.

That's an interesting perspective. So, for example, if I were to raise a deeply controversial opinion or threat or say something just plain awful to someone - and I naturally assume anyone who is opposed to whatever I may say - could easily track down my real identity, work, address, bank, etc.

Akin to how you can easily look up someone on Facebook and see who they interact with, where they work, etc.

I've heard it mentioned beforehand but I didn't expect it be done. But who knows.
