I don't know much about guns myself seeing as I have no interest in them nor live in a country where they're readily available, so my only knowledge about it are some news articles or hearsay from american friends, so I take my statement back because I was wrong!

This place doesn't just service the NA region. It covers the EU region as well - which is a sizable portion of the community in itself.

Furthermore, it is because of the apparent abandonment of this forum that such content is even posted here in the first place.

Myself and others have spoken at length on the issue and even requested more of a presence to ensure that constructive feedback is encouraged and gathered, as seen here:

I was trying to help get it back on track, then you commented on Awha's post about firearms and sent us down this road.

To be honest the first few pages were pretty constructive on how SE might deal with the issue presented in the original video, but then some people's jimmies got all kinds of rustled and here we are 50+ pages later.

Again, the vast majority of mass-shootings happen in areas where civilian gun ownership is permitted, armed security is present, or even both. It does not act as a statistically notable deterrent to mass shootings. The study that was referenced manipulated their data by ignoring the presence of armed security, and using alternative definitions for mass-shooting among other things. It was conducted by an organization with an explicitly political goal.

I am a gun hobbyist myself, and my family even deals in firearms. This hero fantasy stuff is pure american cringe.

Going off that though, can't any stats be manipulated for a political goal? Furthermore, being armed is more a means of both deterrent and means to protect one's self. I don't know where you got "hero fantasy", nor did anyone mention it.

Because I grew up hunting and going to gunshows, and have a lot of first hand experience around the reality of this issue. Out of all the CCW holders I know, only one of them actually has anything reasonable to say about why they got liscensed. Most of it just pure powerfantasy cringe, with half of them convinced they're literally cowboys. My neighbor essentially just sticks as many guns to himself as possible, despite being obese and disabled. I'm pretty sure his wife has to put his ankle-holster on for him, and I legitimately have no idea how he would ever be able to get that weapon into service lmao.

Let's put it this way;

Do you want a single pulling duty-finder tank carrying a firearm IRL? How about your average walmart karen?

I'm not entirely against something like concealed carry, but the reality is that there are very few people with the presence of mind and emotional maturity to actually handle that responsibility. Mass-arming the population to somehow deter crime is fantasy; Most Americans shouldn't be allowed within 100 feet of a firearm.
