    Yes, CAN be free of charge. But how?
    we already have the game and this is just a massive update, an expansion would cost but not the main part of it.

    they be a link on the website to download the new client which would be free for anyone paying for ffxiv before 2.0 release.

    @indira it's a new client which mean we would have to download a new game and delete our own ffxiv which is 1.0.

    If you ever played WoW or SWTOR like MMOs, you can download them right off of their websites for free. However, you still need an active account to log in to after you download/install the game.So basically when you buy the game you are only paying for the code inside the box.

    I'm guessing this is similar to what SE will do for 2.0 since we are not losing our accounts after the client switch.

    If we got hard copies of 2.0 for free for paying all this time, I'll take it. But if we have to pay, I'll just stick to the new client download. It's really no biggie
