FFXIV is online.
So FFXVII should be the next MMORPG.

It's a single player RPG, with a major departure from other Final Fantasy games, no Tech.

It's not though, end of 1st Arc, second Arc starts in the first Content Patch, was already stated, and because FFXI is still going with no signs of being shut down I suspect FFXIV will last another 10+ years.

What if a game designer and development team I respected came out with a new Paid Sub MMORPG in 2023. Besides cry because the MMO market hasn't grown in players since 2010 and the player base has disseminated across 5 MMOs fairly evenly over the last 10 years.

1. You'd move inmediately?

Move, no, might try it, but as I maintain 3 active subscriptions to my favorite MMOs I doubt I would quit one to sign up for a new one.

2. You'd keep playing FFXIV for a while?

Until I die, they close the servers, or something like what has come out about Blizzard happens.

3. You'd play both if can have a discount for the pack?

this is an illogical business plan even if the publisher was SE and it was a FF game, no way would they sabotage one game to push of another, Square Enix is not EA.

4. You'd play both no matter what?

Current Active Subs: FFXIV, ESO, SWTOR, Life Time Sub Champions, Life Time Sub Star Trek Online. What do you think?

It wont be so no need to even think about it. There is no need for SE to change when they got one of the hottest MMOs on the market. That being said. I played FFXI till FFXIV 1.0 drop but I played both till FFXIV 2.1 dropped.


All they need to do is the following. Drop PS4 support at 7.
Drop a HD pack.
No need for a new mmo.

I would absolutely love it if they started fresh.
I started about a month and a half ago and while I do really like the game. I'm at like level 52 and sometimes find it hard to log in knowing that I have a phone book full of random quests that are neither engaging or rewarding and I need to do them before I can continue.

I can only imagine this must have been much better / more enjoyable when it was new content

This is such a good question. I feel like I've invested way too many years into FFXIV so it would be hard to just drop everything and leave. But, I probably would jump ship if the 2 people I play with the most decided to leave for good.

If 17 were a new mmo game, the majority of the mmo populace would not move there; unless a popular streamer moved there.

This is how XIV, been out for nearly decade, and never seen a burst to the top until popular WoW streamers streamed it.......Days later, the game sold out.....Highest viewed game on Twitch for a brief moment, until New World beta happened (Nobody competes with that atm).

MMO have a sheep herd mentality. Nobody will move to from XIV, unless the current king of the land tells them to.

New World is the only mmo in recent memory to get over organically, without major streamers making it popular......But lets see how long that last. Lost Ark is another one, but that have pvp tournaments.

That is why XI players are obsessed with Ninja playing XI, cause they think it will get the game more attention; and why XIV players in the past wanted Asmongon or whatever his name is to play XIV.

If a popular streamer chooses your game, it is like the dime piece chick asking you out.......You are the most popular boi in school....
(But I was the most popular guy, so chicks would ask a brutha out, but I digress......)

Unless a highly popular streamer chooses 17....People from WoW, XIV, New World or Lost Ark are going nowhere.

If NickMercs randomly played GW 1 (Not 2....1.....) within this moment, the game would sell out online by the end of today.....And everyone and their momma would be streaming it on Twitch. MMO gamer, or not......

So long as XIV sells, there is absolutely no need for Square Enix to pursue another FF MMO. It just won't happen.

I feel like the reason people jump ship when a popular streamer does it is because when it comes to gaming entertainment, people really, really don't want to waste their time in something that might or be currently thrash.

The mmorpg landscape in the last five years has been somewhat abysmal. Every game that has a multiplayer component seems to try their damnedest at taking your money in every shape or form by luring you in with shiny paint, only to leave you wondering where all the colors have gone later.

So who better for those people to have someone, with a particular weight added to their words, to say "yeah, game is really fun. You can see me actually having fun real-time" to scope out a mmo for you so you don't have your time potentially wasted.
