This. When you've been playing since ARR beta you've heard this a million times and to questions of the most basic functions, it gets very tiring indeed. I'd love a new FF MMO that was built well from the ground up. A proper glamour log, a housing system that hasn't been functionally broken since it's inception and it never receiving anything but band aid fixes for 8 years, a character creator that isn't so bare bones in this day and age (technical limitations to separate Au Ra horns from the faces, to add more face paint options, impossible to add beards for male characters, to add more customization sliders etc.), so on and so forth. I love XIV but it's very frustrating when the technical limitations limit the game's potential at every turn. There's so many things a new FF MMO could do better from the start.

The answer would be yes. The next FF-MMO would be action combat based with updated graphics engine. Maybe UE5. Maybe. But I don't see it happening for a while. FFXIV is still good and they stated FFXIV will continue after Endwalker.

I don't see why FF17 should be the next MMO game in the FF series. Just because FF11 and FF14 has two singleplayer games between them does not mean it should be the same for FF14 and FF17
However, let's say there is going to be one. I'd imagine it different than FF11 and FF14 because that doesn't work and is a waste of resources and time and can results in FF14 1.0 failure all over again.
Maybe a mix of tab-targeting and action-combat if not pure action-combat with an actual open world ( Open world as in WoW where you can travel from a zone to another without loading screen in-between )
The game might also adopt the "Player-driven economy" concept but without being a PvP-focused game. As well as introducing new concepts for it to stand out the rest of the MMO games.
Speaking of PvP, the new game might look to where FFXIV did a poor job regarding the PvP. but would prefer that to happen without introducing open-world PvP.
That's all i can think now of a new FF MMO game. If i was not mistake, they mentioned in an interview that FF14 might receive an engine update, so i guess that means FF14 is going to stay updated for quite a long time before SE decides to make a third FF MMO

I think there should just be a "Final Fantasy Online" (no number) that is continually updated and upgraded every few years. Of course that would mean new engine code all the time so at some point you're gonna have to differentiate them like "Classic" and current.

I'd play it as long as I can be a miqote

"We want the ability to earn past Feast rewards!" - HAHA no that's sacred.

Not to mention, It would take more than 2 years to make a new MMO, unless they secretly been working on it, hypothetically.
Well what we eventually knew as XIV 1.0 started as a project sometime in 2005. And XVI despite being produced by Yoshida was kept under wraps for 4+ years. So no one can say for sure that SE is not interested just because of what they answer in interviews.

I wouldn't move over, but I would sub to both until I ran out of content in the new game.

The problem with new MMOs is there will always be a lack of content that will leave consumers a bit unsatisfied, so it'd be really hard to make it your main game or move to it. New World is having that problem currently. But I'd definitely support it

So FFXVII should be the next MMORPG.
remember when the devs of the brilliant ffxi made ffxiv 1.0 and it was a very expensive mistake for four years? I dont think square will be so eager to replace xiv.

I'd give it a look. I'd play both if I enjoyed them both. Especially if they had something like SOE's All Access. I still maintain my EQ and EQII accounts with that.

Something with a more flexible character customisation system, good graphics, distinctive races and racial lore/zones, differentiation between classes/jobs with some customisation potential, an engaging combat system with challenging content, and a story less fixated on the character as the Chosen One (tm) would interest me greatly, particularly since it would be unburdened from the many legacy engine issues plaguing XIV. Particularly in a setting like Ivalice, with some darker/grittier story elements and less fixation on being a goody-two shoes.

When the game's story becomes self-aware:

Where's the fun in walking in the shoes of some inconsequential grunt?
