Why would SE make a new MMO? Just because it's been "X games since the last FF MMO" doesn't mean they're going to do it. FFXIV is doing more than well enough now that I can't see them spending the resources to make yet another game in a dying genre. A lot of repeat complainers here on the forums keep bringing up "old graphics and gameplay" dragging the game down, but if that was the case, then we wouldn't have an entire datacenter closed off and talks about increasing the server capacity.

According to a recent interview, Yoshi-P said he would only make a new MMO if he could make something good enough that would move all of the players over from FFXIV. He also said in the same interview that the FFXI sub base is actually growing and they plan to release content for its 20th anniversary.

Nah, I've got my eyes set on DokeV for now. I don't think I'd have it in me for another FF MMO, especially after XIV: too many rollercoasters, and most of them weren't in the game..

More like X task is impractical to do here and we believe we should have that before someone makes too good of a deal to pass up.

MMOs are making a somewhat resurgence, and more particularly they are becoming a bit more creative again- confidence that that "I'll always be the best so whatever" is probably not best placed. Maybe what caused WoW, among other reasons, to suffer as it has.

Clearly FFXIV is not on the downward spiral but given these games, honestly all games, take a long time to make it's better to be slightly ahead of the curve than WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY behind it. Just 'starting' after the rising sun of competition emerges is going to put you quite behind the curve.

If some company comes out with liquid gold and you haven't even started on yours yet, likely bad move. If you're just humming along in the background like many companies do with their product lines ready to strike when they feel others are about to- better. Of course still even with the somewhat resurgence of the games that they're still harder to produce and challenges to the thrones come less often. MMOs.. MOs? It's true more recently the more popular mmos have been far more personal in focus.

I doubt SE needs to have one ready to put out the door any time soon (next year or two at least I'd bet is no concern) but if they waited three years from now to start another MMO / MO (add then five or more years for development) I might imagine they could get caught with their pants down when something better shows up before they're even close to ready. (Start and or greatly enhance their current one at too much of a delay). Really cool technology out there might allow a newer mmo to do things that are just incredibly impractical with the old system.

I imagine, like FFXII (or the plan at least lol), they might be clever and help build the MMO with their sRPGs. Given (Naoki) Yoshida and Hiroshi Takai are on board with that other new FF game, and so I imagine the team knows what an MMO needs, it might be a more successful transition this time when it comes time to take that engine and 'multiplayer-ify' it. That way they cut a lot of development time down without having to invest it off into something that is too early to release while their current flagship is still capable of holding the line. Just a guess tho.

How dare he be respectful to his dev team and honest with his playerbase.

I’d play both until FFXVII has enough content to keep me busy. Then I’ll gradually quit FFXIV.

This. I don't think SE will make a new MMO or even consider it for a very long time. FF11 was made for the PS2 and was a different time.
14 was their way to modernize their MMO and make a wow like game.

I think they just need to update the engine and make updates to it rather then gamble with a new mmorpg entry.

Only if I found it to be an enjoyable game then yeah I'd play it. SE themselves thought people would drop XI for XIV 1.0 just because of the pedigree but that burned them quite badly as we've all seen, and I imagine it would happen again if they pushed out a new MMO that is barely an improvement or just more of the same.

So it'd have to be something pretty damn amazing to make me want to stop playing this, even with its quirks and flaws. I'd still be playing XI in fact if money wasn't a bit tight due to ongoing circumstances.

    Yes.

I'm tired of hearing the excuse "Technical Limitations".

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

The answer would be yes. The next FF-MMO would be action combat based with updated graphics engine. Maybe UE5. Maybe. But I don't see it happening for a while. FFXIV is still good and they stated FFXIV will continue after Endwalker.

I don't see why FF17 should be the next MMO game in the FF series. Just because FF11 and FF14 has two singleplayer games between them does not mean it should be the same for FF14 and FF17
However, let's say there is going to be one. I'd imagine it different than FF11 and FF14 because that doesn't work and is a waste of resources and time and can results in FF14 1.0 failure all over again.
Maybe a mix of tab-targeting and action-combat if not pure action-combat with an actual open world ( Open world as in WoW where you can travel from a zone to another without loading screen in-between )
The game might also adopt the "Player-driven economy" concept but without being a PvP-focused game. As well as introducing new concepts for it to stand out the rest of the MMO games.
Speaking of PvP, the new game might look to where FFXIV did a poor job regarding the PvP. but would prefer that to happen without introducing open-world PvP.
That's all i can think now of a new FF MMO game. If i was not mistake, they mentioned in an interview that FF14 might receive an engine update, so i guess that means FF14 is going to stay updated for quite a long time before SE decides to make a third FF MMO
