I'd probably switch over. May still play both, depends.
I'd be happy to see what Yoshi-P would do with a new mmo with no baggage.
FFXI was doing quite well when FFXIV 1.0 launched and they also still continued to release new content for that title after FFXIV launched. IMO I think it was done more as a way to "update" the game engine of sorts since FFXI was hitting the point of looking visually dated along with moving to a interface system less reliant on menus and menu command macros for general gameplay. As such I feel like the next MMO in the FF series will come about when they decide they feel the game engine for this title is outdated enough that they want to use a new one.
That's not enough information to make a decision.FFXI was online.
FFXIV is online.
So FFXVII should be the next MMORPG.
If Yoshi-P launch a new FF online game (in 2023) and Endwalkers is the last expansion... what would you do?
1. You'd move inmediately?
2. You'd keep playing FFXIV for a while?
3. You'd play both if can have a discount for the pack?
4. You'd play both no matter what?
From what I hear they still get new subscribers to 11 so i'd imagine it still doing well and is very profitable for SE. I really hope they do something special and unexpected when it turns 20 in 2022.FFXI was doing quite well when FFXIV 1.0 launched and they also still continued to release new content for that title after FFXIV launched. I know I'm keeping an eye on it since I loved that game for a decade and will have a special place in my gamer heart.
Not to mention, It would take more than 2 years to make a new MMO, unless they secretly been working on it, hypothetically.
Would love to see MMO in the vein of FFX-2's battle system except in real-time.
That would be so damn fun and addicting.
Heck if they're feeling ballsy maybe something similar to FF7R (that would be quite the budget).
We could always wait to see if they release FFXXX as a full immersion VR MMO that can then have something go horribly wrong resulting in us all being stuck inside our characters... and then I can sit back with some snacks and lol at ppl trying to lewd a monster to death... >.>
tbh I really would move immediately.
I been here for 10 years over various accounts and even use to stream the game on twitch when no one else was back in legacy and even though I try and get engaged with the game, i'm already ready to move on from it. the only reason why i'm still here is due to nostalgia and sunkcost fallacy.
If there's new online FF game I will try it out while continuing playing FF14 as long as it's still alive.
I think it would depend on a couple things for me.
First, is 14 going to continue development or is it just going to be stuck in maintenance mode? If EW really was the last expansion and the game wasn't going to be developed further, wasn't going to receive new content, etc. then I wouldn't keep playing 14 regardless of what was going on with other games. I might check back in once in a while and if there was anything left I really wanted to do at the time I'd still do it, but I wouldn't, say, start levelling a new job or start grinding for a new relic. My general ongoing play of the game would stop once it was "done."
Second, is 17 a good and interesting game? I'd be likely to pay attention to 17 and would absolutely be willing to give it a shot, but I wouldn't say that I would absolutely play it without having the experience. I didn't play FF11 much more than an hour or so because I just didn't like it. It didn't matter that others do like it and/or because it's a FF game.
So, yeah, if 14 ended and 17 took over as "The FF MMO" it could conceivably result in me not playing either of them.
