After the initial failure, FFXIV recaptured the magic, so SE now needs to do that with flagship single player titles.

Honestly, FFXI would have to die out first, too. If I knew FFXI would have lasted this long, I would have tried it years ago while still playing this.
I would be so happy if there was a FFXIII online game or a FNC online. I would probably be with that game in the beta if there was one

    Difficult but good question.

For what it worth, my two cents.

Many new MMO games "in project" seem to follow, either a Fortnite, nor a hack'n'slash, cross-plateforme (I mean mobile too) model with sort of autoplay... I'm afraid FFXVII could follow such path. I would probably try the beta before any decision.

Now, considering the "state of art", FFXIV has many flaws I can't ignore, it starts to feel "old". It's a nice game though but... I kinda miss a technically up-to-date brand new game. Fresh start, discovery feeling... and if it catches me, I would probably leave FFXIV for good.

But I don't expect anything new before...2023?(pretty unlikely) 2025?(possible, but...) 2027? (many things can happen before XD)

Is there like going to be a Fortnite Final Fantasy 7 Remake app coming out soon?

A lot of unknowns by just saying new MMO but assuming it's all for the better then absolutely.

    1. You'd move immediately?

    -Yes

    2. You'd keep playing FFXIV for a while?

-Maybe, if they had a dual subscribe or something I might do that. I would absolutely complete the saga, but you said after the end of EW in 2023 so, I feel safe to say I'd have done that. However, I may subscribe to FFXIV off and on during new patches / expansions, while keeping the new MMO as the new 'base'.

    3. You'd play both if can have a discount for the pack?

Depends for this one. Could I be so greedy to ask for a legacy combo? lol... I feel spoiled to have such a discount for so long but that'd probably make a duo-sub easier. I would definitely consider it at major patches or expansions, but if I had one MMO active I might not have another one always active too because I've not time to do that. I understand the new MMO wouldn't have a legacy discount though, which I would be fine with.

    4. You'd play both no matter what?

No matter what I feel gives the wrong impression to game companies. This is true for some players and I think they train companies poorly because of it. "No matter what you give me I'll buy it" = I'll sell you an over priced under performing bridge to no where. I don't get the sense that the current team would try to take advantage of that like an EA sports game or some other classic company example.. but it's something to be aware of being possible (and has happened many times to companies you'd never think would do that). My sign of respect to the team is that I'm willing to pre-order their work, in general I think that's a silly thing to do for the unknown but for teams you believe in I suppose the relationship is mutually advantageous (faith put in is quality returned, quality returned made more comfortable / achievable by the faith put in).

The prospect of a new world, new mechanics, and potential of lessons learned imprinted into core mechanics, with improved systems due to technology... is very dreamy though. I don't believe FFXIV is dying in such a way they need to rush any new mmo but old systems that are very engrained (and thus hard to change) can get grating and there is something hard to achieve as you go into double digit years of experience with a game.. hard to feel new anymore.. I still enjoy the game but there are canyon neural pathways built for FFXIV and so it's old in the brain lol.

On the off hand comment of some (not comprehensive, none are required just random selfish "would be neat" selection for me) things that would be cool to see in a new mmo, some because they're impractical here:

    - Much better movement systems, this is not specific to just a single point which is why I say systems- for example collision detection being more consistent and accurate (Kugane tower being an example where the collision system does not shine, I don't mean that as an insult to whoever made the tower). To other elements like trying to better work in at least personal animation blending and canceling on top of movement animations to get a more fixed to ground visual (less floaty), or the dash abilities being more responsive and action feeling. Not just dashes, but make say a jump more of a jump than a skimming the ground, etc (which requires admission of that concept in world design so players can or can't get somewhere).

    - Housing system not being this housing system . . lol. Look towards something like ESO, Wildstar, etc, but of course feel free to improve on that. High creativity / freedom, low barrier to entry, long road of progression potential. Ensure ease of access / searching to encourage community development (maybe leaderboard systems, tags like we have now, etc, allow people to easily visit / find each other unless they choose to be private).

    - Glamour log being far far more compressive, and the item log that they had in the works before that they determined they couldn't do- that would be cool fi they could find means here. I would love to see little snippets of info on items (like how a lot of Blizzard games have cute lore quips on legendary items, or MTG cards have).

    - Powerful yet multiplayer friendly phasing system that allows strong impact to the world through MSQ yet doesn't have some of the issues WoW had with being able to play with friends (or when trying to do group content, like a world boss or what have you)

    - Stronger character creator, doesn't have to be crazy ugly maker like some of the super slider MMOs out there but there do exist more customize-able character creators (fair enough WoW is not one of them lol).

    - Naturally better graphics, doesn't need to be Crisis 2.0, and maybe they can hide some of it in a slightly more stylized art (like their concept art style, not thinking super cartoon-y). But giving themselves far more environment ability so they can make those insanely cool landscapes even easier and more.. insane.. than before. Wild 3d complexes, huge vistas. I know SE as a whole are very capable of this (all teams), I see the engine being the issue here on that front (prevents being able to go too crazy).

    - If possible open world, I'd choose better looking instanced system over open world but I just feel open world has a touch of... wanderlust.. potential that is a bit harder to have in an instance.

    - WITHOUT making double digit obnoxious travels (no 1 hour snafu like FFXI, can have boats but those boats being more like WoW's and not something that is again going to thrust you into long periods of 'nothing but holding a button, or worse no buttons lol, at least consistently- one offs for first time grand vistas is different than repeat'), a greater emphasis on the journey through multiple gameplay systems coming together. That's area design to make the open world more exciting, quest design to ensure enjoyable paths, combat and monster placement/design, and of course the movement system itself. Like mentioned a bit above for movement, but again making a game out of that. Think like how GW2 had a few ways to go through the environment quickly yet more interestingly than just hold one button. GW2 had some nice content in the overworld, and cool movement system. Looking at FFXV for some perhaps travel vibe inspiration (tents, camping, they're classic FF elements- might have locations in the game you can gain cool buffs).

    - With comment of movement, more integrated chocobo and airship experience. Greater emphasis on them, I love them as concepts- wish they were a bit more prominent pieces of content. It's not horrible now, but.. "more" would be nice lol. Moogles are cute too, maybe bringing them back into a core system (we've mognet here in FFXIV but it's not too core, obviously in FFXI you couldn't not talk to a moogle, maybe like FFIX there is a whistle or something, I dunno- I just like those three items and like them being integral parts of the game).

    - Much stronger roleplay-gameplay emphasis. This isn't erratic Role Play support system, I mean gameplay that role plays whatever that content is. This is generally something I think FFXIV has done not that great compared to quite a few MMOs but particularly to WoW the most often direct competition. (I still believe overall FFXIV is the superior MMO, but on this element I no-contest give the award to WoW). Purposefully doing something that may not impact a core combat system because it just makes sense for the situation, job, location, etc. The glee you see the devs of WoW have to add goofy things to engineer because it makes sense, or jobs that get special movement and or goof abilities because because. Demon Hunters that can glide because they've got wings on their back. Dark Knights that can walk on water. Etc. It's pervasive in WoW and nearly non-existent in FFXIV. There are balance concerns that can happen in WoW, but that is more racial based, but I would say generally avoiding things that impact raids / savage like content (like if Dragoon gets a super jump, like actually can choose to charge up their jump by holding space and then bounding forward, that wouldn't work for savage). This idea goes into zones and general game experience as well, there might be hidden secrets or content systems to encourage a sense of exploration (FFXIV has some, GW2, WoW, ESO, check the competition and do the smart thing and cannibalize what makes you stronger while shedding the fat, that which made WoW great originally). So rather than an over reliance on FATEs you might have multiple systems of exploration.

    - Either a much more in depth ability sharing system for jobs such that you can make cool and engaging choices or none at all. Currently we share abilities to a role but this only causes flavor loss. Rather than say Dark Knight having shadowskin and Paladin having Rampart, they all get rampart. It just means a loss of potential flavor, even when that flavor is simply a different animation- but there are opportunities that it could be more without destroying balance all together. So I'm not for our current role share as it just seems like a great way to not have each job be more interesting to itself. There is no interesting choice involved checking them onto the bar, it's just unflavored skills to go between roles. Like Scholar lost Leeches for Esuna role action.

    - Smack me with a sRPG FF intro, like one of the classic ones. FFIX, FFVII, FFX, etc.. The ones that just start out swinging. Doesn't mean it has to be fighting gods, but.. just more oomph. It's been ages since I played FFXIV's intro but I remember, and perhaps this is the beta infecting my memory lol, too much leeway and so I spent hours in town and not feeling like this game has a super exciting intro (fair to say a bit of a self inflicted injury but say I couldn't have done that in those other three examples I gave, maybe "on rails" with kicking cadence, don't want it so long that players have like 5 hours before they can be with friends though.. unless its like the best intro ever and skippable in the future).

Anyway, I do wonder how the game will grip after the saga is over. The game is fun without the fun story, but it's also fairly old for me lol. I don't see the death of this game in sight, it has had an incredible injection of strength in this recent time that's exciting to watch, but I do find myself wondering what the grass would look like on the "major changes" side of the fence (that's not to say I'm looking at WoW or something). Some are just minor desires, but I do find like the housing or glamour log or sometimes the super obvious pixels on screen like "wow, I must be playing an old game". Fun game, just sometimes feels dated and I can't help but imagine what grand thing would be if they were able to strike the engine hard (or make a new mmo). They could always just either do a PSO2 or more of a WoW major revamps on occasion. I'd not like to wait 2 years while the game is offline for it to come back though lol. New mmo or part of an expansion, don't take something offline with no replacement XD. Maybe when the next (not EW) expansion is announced they might have a new mmo, or at least some major improvements /shrug?.

Major improvements is the safer choice, but there is a lot more child like wonder to regain that is naturally lost after 10 years vs starting a new experience for the first time. Either way I wish the game(s) well, and their teams as well.

So FFXVII should be the next MMORPG.

If Yoshi-P launch a new FF online game (in 2023) and Endwalkers is the last expansion... what would you do?

    1. You'd move inmediately?
    2. You'd keep playing FFXIV for a while?
    3. You'd play both if can have a discount for the pack?
    4. You'd play both no matter what?
Umm FF11 is online. It's still running.

    1. I'd probably check it out but I dunno.
    3. There won't be a discount. If they don't even discount FF11 and 14, why would they start with a hypothetical new MMORPG.
