The next FF mmo should not involve Yoshi P at all. I think he should stick with FFXIV and improve upon it further and further. They should let someone else try their hand at directing an MMO. Maybe someone like Tetsuya Nomura.

Would it be an MMO revolving around killing Chaos?
That would be 4 MMOs though. FFXI would have to be killed off. Many people forget that SE does the Dragon Quest MMO which is not released in the West.
Really all we need for FFXIV is a engine update which is slated for 7.0/8.0
How is this DragonQuest MMO and when was it launched, please? They plan to release it in the west anytime soon? Thanks for the info.
DQX is a lot closer to FFXIV than XI. Down to the point of feeling like you're paying a sub to play an "almost single-player game with online features".
Interesting thing to point out. On a recent stream for the Dragon Quest series they mentioned something about a single player version of DQX being in the works. Exactly how far it goes in comparison to the MMO I don't fully recall. It might have only been the first few story lines.
If you want to try out DQX and own a Nintendo Switch you can create a Japanese nintendo account on it and try it out for free as the game has a free trial version now comparable to what we have here on FFXIV. I think it gives you access to the base game and their first major essentially 2.0 content update.
They did not announce any plans during the Dragon Quest stream about releasing it out to this region. The other things I recall from it were the announcement of DQXII being in development. A spin off game of DQXI that came off as kind of mystery dungeon like to me, a type of pixel remaster of the early titles similar to the pixel remasters of the early FF series games, a couple new mobile games, and teaser for the next DQX expansion they were coming out with.
Play both (as long as 14 gets content of course)
I don't think we need a new MMO title. SE needs to get back to its roots with a solid game in FFXVI, then do at least two more single player titles before even considering another MMO. I don't think FFXIII and FFXV were bad, but when you compare them to FFVI, FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, and FFXII, they fall short. After the initial failure, FFXIV recaptured the magic, so SE now needs to do that with flagship single player titles.
Honestly, FFXI would have to die out first, too. If I knew FFXI would have lasted this long, I would have tried it years ago while still playing this.
Wishful thinking?
But to answer the question, I'm technically not an MMO player. I play FFXIV because it's part of the FF franchise and, most importantly, because it's a lot more solo-friendly than other MMOs out there.
But well, now that I've had a taste, I might try a new FF MMO even if they move away from that. And keep playing FFXIV too.

I'd absolutely give it a go. One of my biggest regrets with XIV is not starting it as soon as ARR was released and sticking with it through to today.
