I would absolutely love it if they started fresh.
I started about a month and a half ago and while I do really like the game. I'm at like level 52 and sometimes find it hard to log in knowing that I have a phone book full of random quests that are neither engaging or rewarding and I need to do them before I can continue.
I can only imagine this must have been much better / more enjoyable when it was new content
This is such a good question. I feel like I've invested way too many years into FFXIV so it would be hard to just drop everything and leave. But, I probably would jump ship if the 2 people I play with the most decided to leave for good.
I feel like people should really take a step back and think about this sort of thing a bit more practically and realistically, because considering the current landscape of gaming in general, the next Final Fantasy Online has a higher chance in becoming some 4-player Coop Survival game or Battle Royal.
Keep to the present, and enjoy it while you can, because the future may not be what you want it to be.

My man is so right it's not even funny.. it's SCARY.I feel like people should really take a step back and think about this sort of thing a bit more practically and realistically, because considering the current landscape of gaming in general, the next Final Fantasy Online has a higher chance in becoming some 4-player Coop Survival game or Battle Royal.

If 17 were a new mmo game, the majority of the mmo populace would not move there; unless a popular streamer moved there.
This is how XIV, been out for nearly decade, and never seen a burst to the top until popular WoW streamers streamed it.......Days later, the game sold out.....Highest viewed game on Twitch for a brief moment, until New World beta happened (Nobody competes with that atm).
MMO have a sheep herd mentality. Nobody will move to from XIV, unless the current king of the land tells them to.
New World is the only mmo in recent memory to get over organically, without major streamers making it popular......But lets see how long that last. Lost Ark is another one, but that have pvp tournaments.
That is why XI players are obsessed with Ninja playing XI, cause they think it will get the game more attention; and why XIV players in the past wanted Asmongon or whatever his name is to play XIV.
If a popular streamer chooses your game, it is like the dime piece chick asking you out.......You are the most popular boi in school....
(But I was the most popular guy, so chicks would ask a brutha out, but I digress......)
Unless a highly popular streamer chooses 17....People from WoW, XIV, New World or Lost Ark are going nowhere.
If NickMercs randomly played GW 1 (Not 2....1.....) within this moment, the game would sell out online by the end of today.....And everyone and their momma would be streaming it on Twitch. MMO gamer, or not......
So long as XIV sells, there is absolutely no need for Square Enix to pursue another FF MMO. It just won't happen.
@Monsutaman
I feel like the reason people jump ship when a popular streamer does it is because when it comes to gaming entertainment, people really, really don't want to waste their time in something that might or be currently thrash.
The mmorpg landscape in the last five years has been somewhat abysmal. Every game that has a multiplayer component seems to try their damnedest at taking your money in every shape or form by luring you in with shiny paint, only to leave you wondering where all the colors have gone later.
So who better for those people to have someone, with a particular weight added to their words, to say "yeah, game is really fun. You can see me actually having fun real-time" to scope out a mmo for you so you don't have your time potentially wasted.
Healing DRK is literally... the same since ShB. The reason why people think it's a meme to heal nowadays because DRK receives very little to no buff to their sustainability vs 3 other tanks getting something useful. If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.
The only way XVII would be an online game, would be if it was remarkably different in format from XIV.
I'd imagine in order to justify it, it would be somewhat more similar to the likes of Destiny or Anthem or that sort of online action game instead of a tab-target MMO.
I would. Regardless of how it turned out. But ideally it would be a return to a more harsh and unforgiving exploration style open world like XI was. And they could keep the immediate gratification theme park MMO in XIV. That way, both player bases win. Honestly I long for some adventure and danger in an open world MMO that I just don’t get in XIV. Like I have never felt I need to watch out or be on guard while traveling in XIV. Not once. And the teleportation stuff makes it so I never have to touch most zones either. Everything is instanced… which would be okay if the groups at least had to be together and travel to the instance entrance zone.
But nope, as it is I never even see my static or my friends in the world because we just queue for the raid together, and as soon as it’s over we don’t travel back together or see each other. We just apear back in our house or Limsa or whatever.
And sure it’s convenient, or we could “force” a social gathering outside or make them up because we can. But it’s weird because we have no reason to… like sometimes the best friendships or experiences come from doing something out of necessity.
Take Sea of Thieves for example, like wow… I mean the journey is more than half the experience and it is gorgeous to look at the scenery. But that’s not why we do it, we don’t just go out and look at stuff, we’re on our way to dig something up or complete a quest… and if we could teleport to islands we’ve visited before we would just do that instead. And quit shortly after cuz it gets boring.
Making places dangerous/long to get to is not a disrespect of a players time. Not if the world is carefully and beautifully crafted so it’s meant to be appreciated.
I like XIV, and love SE, but i hope the next MMO doesn’t feel as claustrophobic as XIV does.
