Nice catch; my brain didn't spark a connection between "the commander disbanded the Company and wandered away shortly before the Calamity" and "Lorens disappeared in the days following the calamity" but those could mean pretty much the same thing in this context.

If Lorens is our guy, and he comes back, I vote Oriolda is with him. We were never formally introduced, but...

...There's still time. (Unless she ended up tempered, lol.)

We're dealing with a retcon here.
Encyclopedia Eorzea, volume 1, page 97, contains the following text against Merlwyb:
The only daughter of Bloefhis Bloefhisyn, former captain of the League of Lost Bastards, Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn served as a member of the flagship's crew until the day she learned that her father had consorted with the Sahagin. Betrayed and angered, she challenged Bloefhis to single combat on a deserted isle in accordance with pirate custom. She returned alone, and assumed leadership of the Lost Bastards. Thereafter, she sailed the high seas in the tradition of her people, the Sea Wolves, and discovered a safe route across the Indigo Deep to the recently discovered western continent.
This suggests that the pirate custom of a duel was a pre-requisite of her becoming captain, that there was no witness and therefore no Lorens, and that was dealt with Boefhis piror to Merlwyb's voyages to the New world between 1555 and 1559.

Based on the Timeline pages, we know that summoning activity began in 1562 after the battle of Silvertear skies, which basically throws out all the dates.

The only way I can see to resolve this, ninja-edits to this Tale notwithstanding?
The Eorzean historian who documented events and Merlwyb herself are both making errors of recollection.
Edit: OR they are doctoring the official record for reputational reasons.

Hadn't summoning activity already been retconned though, within the Calamity itself, due to what Bahamut is? Not too mention all of the primals that are far older than 1562? Doesn't seem like much of a retcon to me, but more or less a, "This is what we told the public, but this is what actually happened."

At the time, even that situation was much the same. There were allegedly no Sixth Astral summons prior to 1562, but there were "elder primals" from long, long before that, and Bahamut and Odin were those. There's what we call the "Mysterious Primal" that MAY exist between 1557 and 1562, it halted the Garlean advance, but SE has never been clear about who it was or when it existed, so even that one could be 1562. We thought that rule might have been broken by Othard summoning primals against the Garleans, and then we found out that didn't quite happen, either - they just saw the Burn.

To this day, as far as I recall at this admittedly quite sleepy moment in time, nothing has contradicted the 2013 materials that say the first Sixth Astral summonings were Titan and Leviathan right after the Battle of Silvertear Skies.

I think this connects to the ancient "when the aether is in balance, primals aren't even possible" lore (which is part of why I'm surprised Leviathan was summoned so easily here; it was not long after the battle of Silvertear Skies, back when you needed a group of Sahagin doing an organized ritual around a priest who had a Tupsimati-level object to make it work. Maybe once they did it one time it was suddenly and instantly easier because everyone knew it was possible and had much more certain faith, lol.)

Lorens being name dropped is big. They don't randomly name somebody in these things for no reason. He's going to play a role in 6.0, or he's going to play a role in the 24-man, or possibly be a part of the new crew we'll probably have for the storyline following. Hopefully we bring back our favorite sky pirates from Void Ark for our future adventures as well.

The "Othardian Primal" makes more sense with the revelation that it was the Burn the Garleans saw and Solus declared it the work of Primals, who was probably itching to blame something on Primals to wage war against beast tribes and start the Calamity process. Though I don't know how much was planned and how much is a subtle retcon of leftover 1.0 plot points that don't mesh well with 2.x+ lore, and the rushed state of 2.0 against everything that came after, as well (the scene with 14 Ascians + Elidibus being the prime offender).

Lorens is a newly introduced character right? The ending about his disappearance makes it feel like he'll be relevant in the future. Maybe in a sidequest in EW.

That was a weird quest, constantly talking around someone they wouldn't name. I had assumed it was a "you'd know who they meant if you played 1.0" kind of deal.
