For context, my personal house was auto demolished, as expected since I had not logged in to the game for some time. Here are the exact estate removal details from the official auto demolition email that I received:

Removal Date: 2021-07-27 02:00:00 (PST)

Steps:
1. Interact with the "Resident Caretaker" NPC, with the goal of reclaiming any furnishings lost from the automatic demolition
2. Select "Estate Possession Retrieval" from the dialogue options
3. The NPC responds with dialogue explaining how the reclamation process works (see two screenshots below for the exact dialogue), but the NPC does not offer me to reclaim anything.

I am still within the 35 day reclamation period, so I believe there must be a bug preventing me from reclaiming my things. I've been collecting many seasonal furnishings for years, so I am really looking forward to getting my items back.
