Question about healer Job in random group.

    Hello,

I'm been only a dps since Heavensward because i was disgusted with healing in other MMO so when i began ff14 i never touched a healing job or thought about it.

After two expansions of nice experience as dps in all content i decided to go back to healing and up to level 59 everything was fine but then this sunday i did Gubal library four times to pass level 60 and it was a true nightmare : the first time at least the group communicated so in the end they did great but the other three ? i could do nothing except endure because i tried to explain mechanics when i could in english and french (because most of the time they wouldnt wait even after 3 wype) just to be ignored or insulted because trying to make my healer experience better and not a nightmare is elitism and being selfish...
Then dinged 60 and decided to try alliance raid and it was even worse....

So sorry for the long story but in the end my question is : it is the norm after 60 ? because if it is i prefer to know so i can stop and not kill my enjoyment of the game.

Insults are never normal. Being ignored is also not ok. But thats not a matter of what role you play.

Its hard to tell, where the problem is. People dont change just because you reached 60 as healer. Maybe just bad luck. Or people just dont want any explanation, because they already know what to do.
Maybe you can tell us, how you play your healer?

AST job, i try to anticipate damage or mechanic to use the right tool, Benefic 2 then a Aspected Benefic when i see a tank burster coming or someone taking big single target damage then continue to use Benefic 2 until damage slow down and regen is enough to keep the target alive(diurnal), i precast a little before aoe hit the group when using Aspected helios(diurnal) or before the cast finish to shield the group (night sect) or will do helios then aspected helios if the damage is too high (just got celestial opposition so i'm still learning to use it), i also use Esuna when needed (cutter cry second boss) or when thrash apply debuff on the tank like paralyze, i will ignore poison if only one stack and counter it with a regen(diurnal) or let the shield take the damage (night sec)

For CD i use lightspeed when a lot of dodging happen so i can keep my group up while dodging (like the end boss of aetherochemical research facility or Tioman in Sohm al), i use synastry on the tank when a lot of damage are coming and people arent packed so i need to spot heal everyone, i try to keep switcast for mechanic who can instant kill someone (like disclosure in gubal library...) in case raising is needed or use lightspeed to raise faster if the fight doesnt have a lot of movement, i also try to use
rescue to help people (if someone doesn't hide behind a rock on meteor style attack) or to help them do a mechanic (Second boss of sirensong dungeon when they the boss pull the player i rescue him to dispell the black link) but i know some people dont like the spell so sometimes i hesitate to use it.

If there is something i do badly don't hesitate to tell me i would appreciate that, tryed to ask people in dungeons but no one said something.

i understand what you're saying and i hope it's just bad luck.
when explaining mechanics i try to not impose myself on people, it's true some people like to go blind (i do), other have watched a guide on internet so they know, i react only after the first boss(depending of how we wyped) or if they ask,(i can understand sometime you tryed to dodge but missed, it's okay because you tryed) but when you take every attack on everyboss without even trying to dodge and it's the whole group doing that... it's just a nightmare.
something i fear too is people taking the ff14 dungeon are easy meme too seriously which is true if you do mechanics but not if you ignore them...

In general pugs don’t pay attention or even really care about how you heal flawlessly/clumsily or how you handle mechanics to the point of getting insulted, so long as you keep them alive through all unavoidable damage (once again: unavoidable damage) & patching up their mistakes once in a while because well… you’re a healer.

Even when you do make mistakes (Hey, it happens :/)… it’s still rather unusual to see insults getting thrown around, and frankly such behavior should be reported. Players are more on the forgiving side of spectrum than not in general. This isn’t just healer-problem however. Other roles can suffer the same predicament as well.

Now… after reading your story, what I think is you happened to come across with some of those… ’funny’ individuals, especially after reading this part:

Yeah.. these behavior isn’t the norm. You tried what you can. You even tried to explain. And the outcome is detrimental to the group. Most unfortunate. They are uncommon but doesn't mean it won't happen. Thankfully you will have more good experiences, so there's that.

Gubal has more notorious reputation for being punishing when not handled correctly, this is especially catastrophic if you are paired with players that are not paying attention to their gameplay. As a healer, ‘carrying’ 1 funny player is still very possible. Two as well but definitely harder. Three though? I will consider about explaining (If they’re receptive) or even bailing out at that point. Not worth of the headache.

thank for the input Rein, reading you and after talking with some healer it seem i had just some very bad luck so i will just rest a little from healing and go back to it after that or like someone advised me to find a FC and run as healer with them.

Thanks for the answers, have a nice day all.

I also see nothing really wrong on how you play. The "normal" AST playstyle contains:

    - do boss mechanics (obviously)
    - heal if healing is needed (no one need to be at 100% life)
    - spread your cards
    - do damage if there is nothing else to do

    Or simply: Always Be Casting.

I would advice to get rid of the Rescue-skill. Some players like to rescue other players from AoEs. But honestly, if someone stands in AoEs, its not your job to take care of that, too. Some people have to learn the hard way, that fire is hot ; )
And if you do it way to often, they may report you for abusing the Rescue-skill.

Playing a healer is the most unthankful job. You dont get any mounts (not like tanks) and everyone forgot the cards, raises or shields/regen you did. Instead, everyone is like "oh look, I m top 1 dps!" or "you did great, tank!". But hey, thats the price we re paying ; )
