    thats due to how men dress irl, mens fashion in general since the 1900s has been pretty basic in the west and is only starting to diversify now. where you might have 4 variations of the same outfit idea on a female model with dresses, skirts, trousers and shorts, the same can only really come in two variations that are "socially acceptable" if made for a male model. And even then shorts cut above the thigh would get a bit of side eye.

    either the devs stick to what is acceptable and churn out limited variation but inoffensive designs (probably making 10+ identical looking trouser options in the process), or design varied outfits that might be derided as too flamboyant for the intended audience. see "why aren't there more manly man hairstyles" for examples of this approach backfiring.


    edit: for clarity, i don't think gear should be gender locked at all, its a waste of design and texturing resources. wear what you want the fashion police aint real
