Oh I know - Coincidentally, Mog is also an absolute boss. I encourage everyone to look up some of the old FF6 US commercials on youtube! They gave him...quite a voice, heh.

Most FFs have them as small critters, moguri - mole-bats. Eorzean ones are still pretty incompetent and often designed to infuriate the player as annoying tedious lazy fools. Their design is even more twig-limbed on top of that vs, say, FF6 or especially FF9.

The Moogle status effect comes from Seiken Densetsu if I recall. First showed up in SD1, renamed FF Adventure over here. I think it's only in the SD games still?

Ivalice is really the only other setting they're ever shown to be fighting, in the TA games, and the only one where they're more lapine than mole. Competent, intelligent, whimsical, and highly technical. A fun combination for a fantasy race. I'm not saying that's the norm, heh. Much as I wish it was!

But they are what people tend to ask for when talking about playable moogles. Partially because they actually fit a small PC model (moreso than fluff molebats at least, and moreso than something like goblin bodies). Partially because moogles in general are a FF mainstay. Partially because Ivalice has already been linked to XIV - they just screwed us on the moogles there while including every other FFTA race, then specifically laughed about the moogles in one dialogue. It was really disappointing for anyone who liked the TA games, cause they absolutely butchered Montblanc's personality on top of that. And partially because there's still a chance to piggyback easily off lalaframe frames.

Burmecians and Lilties would also potentially work as a race, but I think both of them (especially Burmecian) would require way more model work. Burmecians also aren't super tiny. As pointed out below they're actually quite tall, but the FF9 style makes them look shorter. Though I think they could still be stylized down to a 4-5 ft range to keep with that style if really desired.

That said, again I'm under no delusions over here. I do like talking about moogles though~

Lilties would actually be really freaking adorable. And onions and potatoes are always a good combination. Either they or the Ivalician Moogle would a nice addition for a smaller race when and if we were to ever get another.

wouldnt mind another small race, especially if its something else as humans with animal ears attached. but i woild prefer them to invest their time in a more fleshed out character creation, hairstyles and glamour.... viera and hrothgar are still on the to do list.... and also miqote and other tail/ear possessing races.... their efforts shrinked over time in this aspect.

I would want Burmecians because I enjoy rats and I want to see or be freya. Though tbh I don't know how small they would be.

Despite being depicted as shorter than Cloud in Dissidia (probably to keep in line with FF9's art style) Zidane is officially 5'8". Freya and other adult Burmecians/Cleyrans are noticeably taller than he is, so I'd say they're on average about 6 feet tall at least.

Heh. Relevant sig. The main thing that makes Ivalice Moogles challenging is the wings on their backs, which muck with a lot of weird chest armor pieces in this game and for obvious anatomy reasons can't be hidden. Their poms are actually fairly easy to get to work with headgear when you look at what the FFTA/2 Concept Art does with their jobs. You can mostly hide or bend the antennae around to get any pom placement you want, which makes them actually have more uses for /visor too. And any modifications you make to Viera ears to make them work with certain helms will be relevant for moogles as well. There would be some awkwardness with how its placed on their respective heads but that only affects a few specific polygons, so once Viera helmets are figured out, the development time on Ivalice Moogles in the abstract would boil down to chestpieces that try to put accessories on their backs. Any 'wing' shoulders, for example, would just be outright replaced with Moogle wings.

Since we'd most likely get Loporrits instead, really all we'd need is dyeable pompom and wing headgear added. Ideally one set with glasses too, if only so some of us can emulate Horne to fill in all six of the XII siblings~

Really though, this just makes me sad we didn't get Ivalice races from the get-go. XI players did us dirty in 1.0.

Mechanics are Aesthetics. Graphics don't make interesting gameplay.

I don't think we really do need a 'small' race, like lalafell. Lalafell is too much frankly, and a lot of these races like Ivalice Moogles or whatever, would just end up being another limited race.

Moogle poms I believe are almost entirely fluff. I don't really recall any noticeable holes in their hats/helmets in the tactics series in game or in the artwork so I assume they must be able to be squished or threaded through a very small hole. The bigger issue really would be the wings and all the potential clipping with all the chest options that feature cloaks and capes. Then again its one of those things that would bother some ppl and the rest wouldn't care. Similar to what we have already with long hairstyles and tails.

In VI moogles were minding their own business but also didn't hesitate to help a complete stranger. In IX they're very hard workers despite the obsession with kupo nuts. In XII even more so.
I don't remember what they were like before VI. But Thal's balls the XIV Moogles ride on the "Haha they're cute but they exploit you" trope way too much. Which is something that XIV does with most of its 'cute' little characters too... Namazu, Lalafel...

Okay, this thread just gave a fun April Fools idea. On April 1st, everybody's characters should swap heights. Roegadyn and elezen become tiny, and the lalas become giants!
