I think you're getting a little caught on that word.
We also don't need more jobs.
We're simply saying that if SQEX ever considers adding another race, that another small one would be very valuable to FF14.

I agree, we don't necessarily need more jobs either, but I think jobs are a pretty big focus for the game's identity, this and their last mmorpg. So are largely important for the game, and serve a mechanical purpose, unlike the novelty of a race.

I think another small race, rather another race in general, would be detrimental to FFXIV actually, in terms of development resources. I'd rather other things be made using these resources, than be permanently held up making and maintaining another race.

Believe it or not, not everyone wants to be a potbellied munchkin that waddles like Cotton Hill, yet Lalafell are the only available option for players that want to play a genuinely smol race.

Meanwhile, players that want to be big and burly have Roegadyn, Hrothgar, Male Au Ra, and Highlanders. Tall and classy has Elezen and Viera which can also fit into the average height range. Then there's midlanders and miqo'te sitting at a relatively average height with female miqos dipping down to 4'11" at their shortest and fem Au Ra being even shorter at 4'10".

Plenty of options for everyone except for the people that want to play something something Lalafell-sized or somewhat taller but don't exactly jive with the Lalafell aesthetics of being cutesy, conniving little backstabbers that'll scam you out of all your money. There's also a pretty sizeable gap between fem Au Ra's minimum height and Lalafell's max height of 3'2”. Calling another small race bloat when all of the other height ranges have 2 or 3 options is honestly laughable.

I think most of the races, if not all of them, aren't actually exactly what players want either. Male au ra midsection is constantly pointed out, not having a 'proper' elf race, highlander's having no eyebrows, etc. I just don't think that warrants the addition of another small race, with slightly different proportions and animations to lalafell, or just a furry variant. I'd rather they, instead of adding new races, now focus on what we have and give us all more options. Especially, if the addition of another race - small or not - would be yet another limited race, one that may even require a fantasia to change the face/hair just like with hrothgar's "unique heads".

Is that not enough? I still do not see the need here, nor why we should have another. If we didn't already have something sure, I could at least humor the request as beneficial for the game, instead I just see it as what would be bloat.

Lalafell being the One and Only Short Race option is abit unfair, again we dont necessarily NEED another short option, but if we were to get another new race then we SHOULD get another short option. It would be Beneficial to the game to open more Diverse options.

You still make it sound like the Devs wouldn't try to make sure a Hrothgar situation wouldn't happen again.
And, I hope my point is clear that we dont Need the new race, just that if we get another new one that it 'should' be another small one. Limitations or it being a Limited Race isn't part of the argument. The Fairness point is about having another option for a short race IF we got a new race

They can't even get the current newest races into the game in a finished state. You think they'd be able to do both a finished new race and add more customization options? Someone really doesn't learn from history.

I do see a niche for maybe a small race that isn't "cute," but maybe more "cool". Wow has dwarves and goblins, GW2 has asura.

Some players like the "tiny but fierce" or "spry rogue" archetype, and I hate to say it but lala only *ironically* fill these roles that could be played totally straight with, for example:

* a small monkey-like race like kobolds
* a small fish-like race like sahagin
* a small bird-like race like ixali

I don't think a new race is necessary. And I don't think any of the above options are particularly likely because we already have so many beast tribes hitting similar beats. However, looking back on the game in retrospect it does seem like a pretty large design hole that, imo, would have made the game much more marketable to western playerbases who generally find less appeal in "cute" races.
