No, because if you were given 1000 free inventory slots you'd fill them up and then complain that you need more.
It's been proven over various games, it doesn't matter what your inventory cap is, most players just suck at inventory management. You will use all of what you're given and then need more.
We used to have a fraction of the inventory we have today, and some things such as the glamour dresser you can say that "we keep getting more items to add to it" but your main inventory needn't be constantly full. You can ditch all of your low level mats, pots and foods, you can stop collecting old raid currencies, you can throw away all of those mats you're holding onto "just in case" that sell for pennies.
I occasionally craft and fish, and I get the mats I need for those crafts at the time, usually gathered myself. I have a retainer that's full of some of the less common mats, and all my dyes, and a retainer for some miscellaneous stuff. My chocobo saddlebag is for materia, totems/raid currencies, and some limited tokens things like chocobo feathers, etc. My main inventory is never more than half full, (usually half a dozen each of pots, foods, currencies and some of my current mats), mainly because I routinely use the empty half for moving over all my superfluous gear for GC trade ins.
Just keep your inventory tidy.
I'm not "defending" anyone. I am explaining why it won't happen, and why it would only be shifting the goalposts.
We're never going to get another free retainer, because our two free retainers is already established. Giving us one more free retainer means that everyone who has purchased additional retainers is automatically paying for one less retainer. That's a massive loss of profits instantly wiped out, they have zero reason to do that, they're backed into a corner on retainers. A far more likely scenario, is additional slots in one of the other side inventories, like the Armoire or the Glamour dresser. Or potentially an expanded tacklebox. But all of these are problematic because of the games spaghetti code, see my post above.
