I think most people wouldn't care that much, sure it make the set less exclusive, but it is as hard to obtain as before and you don't feel like you effort are worth nothing. People are just against buying the set for a couple of wolf mark or whatever, that would just be sad tbh
Make them wolf collars. Requires a lot of cc season rewards to get them
I am not even a PvPer in this game, why do people want to make more rewards gated by time, instead of an accomplishment? I think we should be asking for more rewards to be gated around an accomplishment week 1 clears should be a special title and the if you clear ultimate within the first cycle your weapon has a different color or effect from everyone else that cleared it after. SE should double down on exclusive rewards.

I feel like this would be an interesting idea if it didn't have the potential of fueling the income of run sellers. I could see people who are desperate for the different colored ultimate weapon (but dknt want to put in the effort) throwing cash at them for a clear.I am not even a PvPer in this game, why do people want to make more rewards gated by time, instead of an accomplishment? If it's an RMT thing then that's a b&. If we are talking about gil then it seems to be a grey area (outside the fact that the incriminating part is done on discord.) and at the very least really _______ lame.

I believe I've said this here before, but...
I tend to think that while it's perfectly fine to lock rewards behind specific content -- e.g., "you must clear <X> to obtain <Y>" and so on -- I dislike making things permanently time-limited.
Does FOMO encourage short-term participation? Most likely, yeah. But is it beneficial in the long run? I don't think so.
But back when the Garo event was gone, I had friends who joined the game and were heartbroken that there were things (notably the Makai Fists) which they could never obtain because the rewards were no longer in game. The existence of those items did not encourage them to play PvP, it just made them sad they had no way to get them.
Now, the Garo event was a special case; it was a licensed crossover with a non-SQEX property, and the rights-holder put a time limit on it, and SQEX did manage to eventually negotiate its return. But it works as an example for this thread nonetheless.
I should clarify that I don't think items need to be available via the same method forever, nor that they can't be temporarily exclusive. You want to give rewards for the top 100 in PvP? Cool! Those can be exclusive for, say, two years. And after two years, it's fair game to release them for wolf marks or trophy crystals or whatever.
Folks who do the time-limited achievement have a thing to show off for a while, and folks who show up to the game late and never even had a chance at the thing know that it'll turn up available a different way eventually, which lessens the sting of missing out.
(Because let's be honest, it can be very depressing to join a game late and be like "...oh, well, I guess I cannot ever obtain <thing X> because it was available for three months, back a year and a half before I started playing.")
Look at how event-exclusive stuff is handled in this game. Let's say you miss this year's Heavensturn event, and so don't get the nice cosmetic armor they released... we know that they pretty much without fail release the previous event's stuff on the Mog Station when the event rolls around the next year. Meaning, sure, you are out of luck on the armor this year if you can't play right now, but next year the armor'll be in the Mog Station cash shop and you can pick it up that way.
Now, whether or not the cash shop is the correct way to handle that is another whole (potentially very loud/lengthy) debate. But you can get the event stuff free in-game when it's current, and you know you aren't completely out of luck forever if you miss that window; that's better than a lot of alternatives, and it's what's relevant for purposes of this thread.
I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.Originally Posted by Packetdancer

Nobody would go through the struggle and competiveness of Ranked PvP, if they can just wait and get it for free by grinding loses in frontline. You kill the mode with it.

So what you're saying is people wouldn't be competitive unless they got something shiny to lord over others?
Doesn't really seem true with the raid scene and a certain 3rd party site.

To be fair, they (raiders) also get shiny things, the weapons being a major one. Being first is what matters to a lot of people though, at least initially. But yeah, there's nothing stopping anyone from getting the cool weapons, armor or mounts if they have the skill or drive to do so. The past Feast rewards were arbitrarily gated behind some pretty long odds. It's not the same, for sure. I'd love to see past Feast rewards return, even if it's as replicas or recolors. I think either of those things would be more than fair for all involved.
Do I get ultimate weapons with grinding wipes? That was his solution now to PvP.
And why should the same rules apply to PvP as they do to PvE? They are different types of game modes. Playing against other humans never gets easier with time, why should it devalue? And the reason I said it is that I just see that they killed the whole vet community with this new mode, which isnt really something a PvP mode should strife for or?
Why not ask the PvP veterans how they feel about it, instead of trying to guess what they think is fair? I noticed 1 in this thread besides me, the rest are mostly just people who dont like PvP or missed the season.
PvP players themselves asked for better reward structure and giving players outside of top100 something more, so it doesnt feel so bad getting place 101. Now you are mad at the top100 players for getting items for which some tried really hard for because they were new to PvP, instead of being mad at SE for not delivering in all those years something better than wolfcollars. For not changing the top100 rewards to be accountwide and letting 10 alts of 1single player get items.
PvP Ranked got already easier after 3 datacenter splits, some seasons you got the Ranked Top100 with Gold Tier already, which is doable on a single day. Still people made threads that they have a job and cant play enough PvP to get top100 lmao. Which are just lies. The same way EU barely had any cheaters or wintraders overall compared to US, 95% were legit players at least on EU leaderboard.
Still so many point fingers at the evil PvP players who "just cheated and traded their way to top100" instead of pointing to devs to change the FOMO structure. You got a new Series structure now, and it is FOMO again because the rewards are only there for 2-3 seasons?! lol. Why give them an exit to re-use old items when they could be building on top of it, something better. The glamour of the Series rewards are pretty much compareable to the Hellhound/Shadowstalker Set, I say they are even better (because the Ranked Sets clip a lot).
Some peope here just don't know what is possible, e.g. there used to be so many frontline bots in the past for leveling reason (stormblood era), if that would be the way to get the rarest PvP glams, it would be the most meme way to end it. And to compare a season now with season 1-4 would be laughable too... Some people couldnt even fit 30-40 skills on their hotbar for PvP nowadays, which was the min. amount back then.
They just should have changed it way earlier imo.
