    Dx11 / XAudio crashes

    Hello,

This is my second time posting on the forums about errors that i've received in game, previously the amount of errors I was receiving was insane - noted here : https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...-fresh-install .
After I solved the issue I didn't have any problems running on dx11 besides one Audiox error right at the start and was good for around a month without any problem, starting lastnight I had the generic dx11 / kernal / ntdll error when I was in Ul'dah, and then today when I was doing alliance raid in The Weeping City of Mhach I got an XAudio error near the beginning of the raid and then received this one while fighting the last boss : https://imgur.com/a/5PDsNp8

I uninstalled the game and ran CCleaner and am currently reinstalling fresh on the same driver to see if it fixes the issue but I'm sure it won't make a difference, I see other people who have similar problems posting on the forums as well and I'm not seeing any real definitive answer to a fix or solution. If anyone can share some insight on what the problem may be that would be much appreciated, Thank you.

Are you using a audio device that plugs into the computer separate from either the motherboard's audio chip set/mini-jacks or the nVidia audio via HDMI or DisplayPort to the monitor?
Like a USB headset or such....

FF14 doesn't like it if the audio device is "changed" while the game is running.
On the minimal end, it will stop the audio, on the extreme end it will crash the audio system, giving the xaudio crash you had the screen shot of.

If you are using a second audio device and you turn it on/off, plug/unplug it, or it has a hardware issue (bad cord, bad plug, bad power system, etc...) which causes it to "hiccup" it's active state, you can get the crash you are experiencing.
Try running without that device, just using the PC speakers or monitor speakers, and see if the issue persist.

EDIT: Wait, is this on a laptop?

Originally I was using a usb connected headset, but I replaced it with the mic / audio cord that plugs directly into the front of my tower ( mini-jacks ) .. after I had gotten the first error back a month ago is when I switched it out and didn't have a problem up until now.. super weird, im unsure if it has to do with my audio drivers but I am also experiencing the dx11 errors which I don't think are linked to the audio ones unless I am mistaken.

Greetings Eorzean and thank you for your contact today.

Upon overview of your System Report, I noticed that the installation of the game is via Steam and on the D drive. Have you tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling on the main C: drive to see if this has any effect?

Additionally, please try running a clean boot on the device so only the main Windows components and the game are booting up with nothing else running in the background.

If the issue persists, please let us know and we'll be happy to assist further.

Thank you for visiting the FINAL FANTASY XIV Tech Support Forums!

Ah, OK, this answers my edit to my post....

So, you have this in your "FFXIV Information" log:
    • NVIDIA Optimus Update 38.0.8.0
Which should not be on a system with a "normal" CPU.
The Optimus system is for use in computers (mostly just laptops) that have a CPU with Integrated Graphics and a separate nVidia discrete GPU, typically a Intel iCore CPU with HD/Iris Graphics (IGP) and then a 10 Series or earlier nVidia GPU.
It's function is to switch between the CPU-IGP and GPU for display rendering on the fly.
It shouldn't be on a PC system with a Ryzen 5 1500X CPU, as it doesn't have built in graphics.

Do you have a laptop as a second computer and have the Windows 10 install on it and your PC set to "Sync"?
If so, turn that off.... it is bad for these types of situations as drivers get put were they don't belong.

As for general DX crashes, I do notice you have a few programs installed that provide as part of their function an "overlay" on your display.
Here is where those types of programs and DX11 / DX9 games come into conflict.
Typically those overlay program run, more or less, the latest version(s) of DirectX, as the engine to provide their display functions.
The problem arises when those versions of DX running in overlay run into something running DX11 or DX9. If the versions are not the same, then there is a small and seemingly random chance, the DirectX system crashes.
This is due to that most all video cards really do not like to render the display in more than one engine at the same time.

Try disabling your overlay programs, or uninstall them, then see if the issues disappear.

thanks for the reply, weirdly enough I don't have a laptop nor do I have my pc set up to sync with any other system so im usure of why NVIDIA Optimus Update 38.0.8.0 is even installed... I usually just update my drivers on Geforce experience and thats that, don't install anything manually so it must have been with an automatic update. This pc was a prebuilt I got back in 2017 so its really not the best. I just bought a 6700 and am about to build my new pc as soon as I get the new parts but id still like to figure out the issue here as the game was running perfect for a month + without any problems and then lastnight out of the blue the errors started popping up - very frustrating.
EDIT: Also, I have disabled Steam / Nivida overlay for over a month now, are there any other overlays you see that I have ? otherwise I have those disabled

Sadly my C: drive is very small ( 100 gb ) and only really has enough room to fit windows and a couple other programs - the game will not fit on it sadly, but the problems I had previously got fixed when I moved it from me E: drive which was an SSD to my D: drive and I didn't have any issue up until last night...

Maybe Geforce Experience is shot-gunning driver sets and covering every possible hardware combo :P
..... I really never liked Geforce Experience, so I always select the Custom install options and disable that from the driver list.

If GE is doing the updates and tweaks in the back ground, it may be that your issues started up due to just a buggy combo of drivers vs hardware.
Personally, when I do run into issues after some update, I make sure I turn off automatic updates and then roll stuff back till I figure out what was buggy.
I would uninstall and DDU your nVidia drivers, download a fresh install from nVidia's website, deselect Geforce Experience, and start over.

I see your C drive is small and low on freespace.... I take it that it is a SSD or M.2 drive?
I would invest in a bigger one and run your games from there.
FF14 does seems to like to be on the OS drive over residing on a secondary drive.
If not for your current PC, then for your next build.

    Sorry for the delay....

These programs provide some form of overlay functions:
    Overwolf
Gyazo 4.1.2.0 (via it monitoring the current display and providing a grab of it)

The BlueStacks App Player can also, but I believe it only does while it is running an Android app.

F.Lux while it doesn't run an overlay, it does override the graphics card settings, so it could make stuff get a bit unfriendly driver-wise.
