What I mean is, instead of an individual buying a house, that somehow a whole server, or even like 10 FCs - just a big, significant part of the playerbase - could get together to work on something long term, like building a castle, or erecting a cathedral, or building a town, which is wholly unique to them. And - particularly with regards to the latter - I don't mean just a retread of the housing districts - I'm talking about you're given a plot of land (instanced/separated; like the present wards) that's essentially a blank slate (say, a grove in a forest, or a pasture on a mountainside, or a bluff overlooking the sea), and while there are some limitations to what you can build there, how you build it, and the pace at which you collect resources to build it, is really up to the people involved what the final effort looks like.
How would something like that be done? I don't have the nuts and bolts of it worked out, but it seems to be that one of the really cool things about FFXIV is watching all the nifty stuff that players create even with the exceedingly limited tools they are presently given. And it would be nice to see that system expanded to allowing them to lay out villages or fortresses or opera houses or... seaports or something like that, that they could truly, from the ground-up, call their own.
