That works regardless of how many runs are required. If it only took one run per relic then the people doing all 17 relics are still carrying the people who only do one.

Also I don't think being a "hardcore collector who does all the relics" has any bearing on whether they're a skilled player.

If you're interested in spending your tomestone each time you cap, 2k or 20k, you'll just get more item at once with 20k but that's pretty much it.
It does affect how quickly you can gear up once you hit a new endgame phase – eg. completing Stormblood and gaining access to the level 70 vendors. As you approach the end of Stormblood (around MSQ 68-70) you've long outgrown anything that the level 60 vendor can offer but you can't spend it on 70 gear yet, so you have to wait and save up. And I don't think you can buy a full set of gear with 2000 poetics when you get there.

(Making the vendors available at 68 like Idyllshire is available at 58 would help, but that's a separate issue again.)

While there is a point to the caps, I do think there are some that could afford to be increased a little.
Poetics could afford to be increased to 4,000 or 5,000 without drastically affecting things, especially considering that what you want to spent Poetics on usually consists of entire gear sets, or 20,000 poetics worth of mats for HW relics.

He says that, but I simply wouldn't feel sorry for someone who spent massive amounts of time to get geared in as little as possible and then claim there's "nothing to do".

Lets be honest. We all know the reason is that it pads playtime and drives monthly subscriptions.
Those numbers are very intentional. First of all, unless you're absolutely racing through Savage, you can't buy a weapon until week 7 anyway. Second, you have the prices wrong. Hat, hands and boots are 495, accessories 375, chest and legs are 825. The process are based around buying as you progress through endgame. And when they become poetics gear next expansion they become cheaper.

Poetics are a poor example tbh because anything you can buy with them is largely irrelevant. Who cares if you can buy 10 old alt sets? Even the stuff they add with patches, like Relic re-rolls aren't much advantage if you can buy a big stack on release day and Grade VI materia was overpriced and hardly worth it from release. Poetics could easily be bumped to 20000 or more.

Scrips, current tomes and Hunt nuts make sense since they keep adding patch relevant items to them.

No, most of the good players went to PF speed run groups.

I can't speak for others, but I'm tired of the expectation that as an experienced player I'm supposed to pay a sub every month to carry players who can't be bothered for no thanks or benefit, while harder endgame content is either cut or outright denied to us. Hell no. Casuals can enjoy their 1 hour DR's if they don't want to buy Essences.
