I've had my secure token since it was first released while i was playing FFXI. For the first time today It showed me Batt 05 then it showed my 6 digit number. what does the Batt 05 mean?

It is most likely a battery code and related to low battery.
I suggest moving to a mobile auth app option if you are able to.
Perhaps also post this in tech support where they may know exactly.
The hardware token is a rebranded Digipass GO 6 and their expected battery life with normal usage is 7 years so it sounds like you've had it about that long. Unfortunately the battery is not designed to be changeable.
Although I couldn't find confirmation of the code for the GO 6, the Digipass 276 says:
I don't know whether or not the 276 having a smaller battery (3-5 years instead of 7) means the timings are different, but basically yes it's low battery and you need to start looking into an alternative.BATT# message appears in device when the battery is running low.
BATT5 ~ BATT1 means 5~1 weeks estimated battery life remaining.
BATT0 means the battery life is exhausted.
Since Square Enix now support Google Authenticator (or any app using the same system) this now offers much more flexibility and you no longer need to use their specific smartphone app, I actually generate my code using my Fitbit Watch!
Be warned about buying any second hand physical tokens though, they can only be used once so if someone had it it on their account/removed it, it can never be readded to any account again (even the same one).
so basically if i remove the serial number from my squenix account i wont be able to use a new physical one?
You must order a new one first and wait for its arrival if you are intent on a physical token.
1) Make sure you have access to any recovery / access / serial codes to your current physical token.
2) Make sure you have the new token source ready. If you want a new physical one, please order one and wait for it to arrive. After arrival, go to 4.
3) If it is Google Auth, just make sure you have google auth and can access it readily. Go to 4.
4) Remove current token source from MogStation.
5) Follow directions to add new source.
**** Please do not do remove anything until you have your new token available and ready the moment you are going to remove current token.
Again, consult tech support. I am just forum lurker and personne who has a bit of experience with switching token sources myself.

You can purchase a new one if you'd like and SE has them available. You would need to remove your current token information from your account first then enter the information for the new token.
They're warning you not to obtain a physical security token from a source other than Square Enix. Once attached to an account, the serial number cannot be used on any other accounts. You would have no way to verify that the one being sold by the third party is genuine and not previously used.
Why would you when you can use a digital one? Just backup the serials and emergency removal codes.
A physical token can easily be lost but what the odds you misplace your smartphone?
I mean I still have my FF11 and FF14 1.0 tokens somewhere... So I can understand that. Just would probably be safer to move to a digital version but that's me :3
Haha fair enough!
funny enough, i spent half a day unable to work a while back because i did exactly that, and all my work stuff requires 2FA.
