being forced to play as other characters is garbage (SPOILERS)

Im new to ff14 and just recently got to the stormblood expansion. this is the first time you are forced to play as another character for story reasons. which i dont mind, it shows another perspective and usually the duties were very easy. Now im at the quest Requiem for Heroes where you play as Hien and the whole objective is just to survive long enough for the warrior of light to arrive. gameplaywise this is by far the worst quest/duty this game has to offer thus far. if you force your players to randomly play as a character that has 3 abilities, atleast make the encounters interesting. if you fight him head on you get destroyed so i ended up just kiting him til the time was over. really boring imo, just let me play my own character ffs. you can tell me the story in a cinematic or smth

I don't think I had trouble with that specific encounter by just fighting the boss instead of kiting, IIRC Hien does have some self-sustain, so you either didn't use it enough or weren't dodging the dodgeable things enough. The small number of skills is not very thrilling but I assume it's to avoid overwhelming players by suddenly dropping a full kit on them. Gameplay-wise these are hit or miss with people but I personally like having these fights from a story point of view.

The Hien fight is the worst of them, by far. The watered down SAM kit they gave him is a complete snooze fest.

Still, I've always found that you have to actually be trying to fail in order to do so with these "roleplay" segments. Even the most difficult one, which happens in Shadowbringers, is scripted to only feel like you're fighting a losing battle.

Having trouble with that encounter is exactly how it's supposed to feel. You need to feel the helplessness of your friends before you yourself get there.

Yeah a lot of people had trouble with that fight.. I personally didn't but it was such a pain for some SE actually nerfed it and made it easier a while back.. it can be made even easier by the Very Easy mode after failing but I think that would effect the fight immediately after too.

i did dodge everything. what killed me was his aoe blast that knocks you back aka unavoidable dmg. and the self heal only does 10k (with around 60k health) and is on a 2 minute cd

makes sense but again, imo they could have just made it a cinematic. the gameplay part of it is excruciatingly boring. spam your 3 attacks and wait 2 minutes. i'd rather have a really challenging fight on my own character than a piss easy fight with a scripted character.

He has a little, but what youre actually supposed to do is stick close to your friends Lyse and Yugiri. Lyse regularly does a friendly(blue highlight) aoe that reduces the damage you take, gives you regen, and i think increases the damage you do. That plus normal dodging is all you need to wait out the timer for phase 2 of the fight to start.

Honestly I think it's a good way to promote other jobs to players who would otherwise never touch them.
