Does every job need its own glamour plate?

It recently occurred to me that the number of combat jobs has already outpaced the number of glamour plates, so I have a question (asked from work where I can’t look for myself, but it’s still bugging me) as someone who built his character around a job-agnostic outfit to suit all jobs.

Is there a convenient way to glam just your weapon, or am I just boned for customization when I hit 16 jobs? Like I can keep my whole look on one plate if I have to, the only thing that changes from job to job is my weapon, which I’m meticulous about matching to my look.

I could have sworn I saw a thing that let me glam just one piece, but I feel like it was limited somehow to glams in my inventory. I feel like it might actually burn through crystals. Am I remembering that right?

I could easily just rule out a certain number of jobs, but I really feel the glamor plate limit should really keep up with at least the combat jobs!

Only time crystals are used, is when putting an item into the dresser, and when applying manually a look from your inventory to an item. Using & applying plates does not use up crystals.

I'm not sure why you need to glam your weapons differently, because you can't glamour a weapon design to another class/job weapon. But if you have the design in your inventory, you can manually apply the glam onto the weapon you want the look to be changed.

I wouldn't say it's needed, but it would definitely be nice.

Maybe you aren't using the plates correctly?

There's 16 plates iirc and you shouldn't have any issue with weapons, since they remain with that same glam until you replace it with a different one, and even then, you can simply go back to the first plate you used without spending gil or prisms.

Unless you're a maniac who changes every weapon for every single job within 5 minutes, in which case you only have to go back to your room and change it for free as long as you've previously added it to your dresser.

I'm pretty sure the OP doesn't understand how the glam system works at all.

There is a few other things that felt like should have been increased with the addition of new jobs. One being the weekly cap on the highest tier tomestones for a given game cycle as more jobs does lead to more people playing multiple jobs or wanting to play more than 1 role in endgame. A process that in the past felt hampered horribly during phases when every combat job actually ended up with it's own set of gear from the tome vendor. It's still felt on other tomestone gear sets as well though to a lesser degree since those sets for most cases were atleast usable by more than 1 job. NIN and DRG being outliers that just about always had a set to themselves. Though NIN initially shared MNK gear in ARR due to being added mid cycle it split off later to be by itself as melee dex gear. DRG being by itself since the beginning but atleast appears to be getting someone to share outfits with in Endwalker when they add Reaper.

    Then educate me, please.

What I see now when I open my plates are a series of images that look exactly the same except for the weapon, with a plate for each job. What I’m asking is: is that the only way to have my weapons look different, or can I just use an “all but the weapon” plate for some jobs, while updating the appearance of just the weapon through a more specific, direct means?

From what I’m gathering from this conversation, the answer appears to be yes, but I’d need to keep the item with the look I want in my inventory, not the dresser, which seems to exist purely to feed plates.

Am I right or missing something?

Yeah, you can use one plate for the outfit then glamour the weapon individually with a glamour prism. Just right click the weapon and click glamour then select the weapon from the list. Yes it has to be in your characters possession in inventory(iirc) or armory chest, and yes it will use a prism up.

You don't need to put weapons in the glam plate at all. You cannot glam a DRK weapon with a PLD weapon for example so you just need the outfit.

Right, but to save on prisms obviously the first 15 jobs get their own plate. I’m never changing my overall look while my character “is who he is now.”
