Him impersonating Ardbert was a weird choice (people in the current era wouldn’t know who that was), then the sudden reveal that he was a primal and the original warrior of light was just not impactful and made me wonder why they even went that route.
If that was the plan, we should have at least heard of an original warrior of light, or had a warrior of light story/lore dump like we saw in Rak’tika regarding Zodiark and Hydalyn. A legend of Zelda breath of the wild opening cinematic kinda video would have told us the original WoL was important.
Finally, him showing up as the original warrior of light reborn would have had the people rally behind him and had us think he was lying, only to reveal that no, he is indeed the original WoL.I thought he wasn't the original WoL, the WoL being a person he greatly admired (similarly to Emet and Azem)?

I wouldn’t trait this as honorable so much as he just wants to do it himself.
Less of a honorable hunter thinking what’s fair, more of a hungry predator who wants the thrill of killing.
As in, he would prefer to hunt the elephant himself than buy some ivory mantelpiece.
As I understood it, the 3 main Ascians each went about the rejoining in different methods. Elidibus was indeed the original warrior of light with the intent of bringing light/power to his particular shard, whereas Emet built up civilizations like the Allagan/Garland and Lahabrea went about summoning/causing primals.
Each part of a complex system of causing a calamity.
Spoiler-ception!
It's not honor as most of us think of it. Honor took on a different meaning for warriors of old. We dress it up a lot more these days, so that soldiers may rationalize going to war in the modern world, where most people are strangers to any type of combat.
Old warrior honor codes placed the highest importance on facing and overwhelming your opponents with your ability. Warriors of old would be almost unrecognizable to warriors of today, and Zenos, I think, is an attempt at writing one.
The reason he's so bored with most people and things, and then so fixated on the WoL is that for him to overwhelm anyone with his ability is nearly effortless. In fact, him exercising his ability outright kills nearby people. Soldiers ready for war, even. So weapons that remove the need to exercise his ability remove the contest, and remove the value inherent in his ability to enact great violence.
Insulting his own philosophy. While he is entirely selfish, he seeks to preserve the contest between two warriors. There is honor in that.

"I thought that my invincible power would hold the world captive, leaving me in a freedom undisturbed. Thus night and day I worked at the chain with huge fires and cruel hard strokes. When at last the work was done and the links were complete and unbreakable, I found that it held me in its grip." - Rabindranath Tagore
Without hesitation Zenos is the guy with no sensible conviction, his only goal is to have fun at the expense of others, and considers his best friend as the person who manages to entertain him.
And he will let people destroy the world for that.
He is still the worst main villain, even Edilibus is better than him, or Asahi who is really a bad character.
Yet they know how to make an interesting villain like Emet Selch. But they prefer to be resurrected by a deus ex machina, one of the worst villains of FF.
It's definitely Cid
I hate the way he looks - from his hair to his outfit
he is really one-dimensional & I wish he would be killed off
I like you. Its great to see rationale on these forums every so oftenI mean..you can say that about a lot of characters, such as elidibus, He's be here since ARR and he hasn't done anything until the middle of SB, same thing with varis and yet...people like him when he has did less than zenos.
Just sounds to me you're trying to justify your reason hating zeno's when there are other characters like that.
I thought varis was boring yet people liked him. So.
I mean...he's doing just that by causing the final days lol and I'll say killing varis was pretty shocking and couldn't you say the same about elidibus and emet? they had the same goal. What was the point of having two? Anything can sound pretty lame if you put it like that. We could delete emet or elidibus because they both have the same purpose because both didn't bring anything new to the table the other couldn't do.
I don't require that my villains have complex soap opera villain backstories or a tragic relatable past. But I *do* expect them to be at least interesting, or failing that entertaining. Zenos doesn't do it for me. We get it. He's bored. Every cutscene he's boredly staring off into space, complaining that he wants to fight the WoL. That's it. That doesn't require a patch by patch speedbump in the story, to remind me that yes, Zenos is still bored, he's still surrounded by screaming civilians or fire, still has that obnoxious giggling clown dancing around him like the dude from the Berries and Cream commercial. He's so bored it's infectious. When we cut away to Garlemald, suddenly I'm bored too. Oh good, a four minute aside to let me know that yes, Zenos is in fact still a bored character with effectively static motivations, two expansions later, who refuses to die and refuses to spend an entire patch not reminding me that yes, he is in fact bored.
On the other hand... where's the ally that rips the enemies a few new holes in their butt that doesn't give a damn about the world or helping ppl and is just pissed off because someone from their side bumped into them in the bar and made them spill their beer and decided that was reason enough to start a 1 man war? >.>
