Doesn’t that door swing both ways? Is the new player not holding up the rest of the party (and in the most recent examples an entire alliance) to watch their cutscene?

That’s not to say it’s the player’s fault. Don’t hate the player, hate the game. SE had one thing to learn from castrum and prae, no cutscenes inside content, yet here we are again. Those who don’t learn from history…

They either need to make these cutscene unskippable like castrum and prae, thus ending the debate on if it’s ok to pull during them or not, or stop putting cutscenes inside content. Personally I think they should go with the latter since it’s obvious people don’t want them (even in castrum and prae people find work arounds to skip the cutscenes).

You could make a game where all you did was run through fields of flowers holding hands and you'd still get a guy telling you you're doing it wrong.

When I say you here, I’m not necessarily meaning YOU you, but rather players in general.

    To answer the above:
No, people watching cutscenes are not holding up the group. This is the stance of the devs, full stop. You are running it because you want something, be it loot, xp or to help a friend. New players are also there because they want something: to enjoy the experience of their first time through the dungeon. Your wants are not more important than theirs.

SE has actively made dungeons with this in mind. Gates are there to prevent massive pulls more or less from 3.0 on, they now force cutscenes in certain instances like Nier. This is directly in response to impatient players. I am satisfied with this and would rather not SE have a more forceful hand, such as forcing all cutscenes.

    Story time:

Way back I was in an ethics class with an article asking people to consider whether England or Scotland was the more religious country. It then listed various rules or policies about English businesses that restricted business times during Sundays, while Scotland did not have such rigorous rules. It then argued that Scotland was the more religious country because the people there just naturally closed or did not do business during Sundays. From Scotland’s point of view, there shouldn’t be a need for such rules.

The point was that hard rules come into place when people don’t or won’t do what the majority believe to be common sense. Now I don’t know if any of that is true, but it makes for a good story, so we’ll go with it.

In Japan, it is common courtesy to wait patiently for others. Not doing so is absolutely a faux pas in most situations. I mostly play with Japanese players and have rarely had a player pull ahead, and even when they do there is usually an “I’m sorry” when they notice that someone is in CS.

Like the story above, from the dev point of view there isn’t or shouldn’t be a need to enforce cutscene watching, but their hand was forced in prae/castrum and they’ve made an effort not to have lengthy cutscenes pretty much since 4.0 on. (HW has a few)

If you don’t want to be inconvenienced by the occasional 30 second cutscene, do not do run the content. SE gives the option to skip on the odd chance the entire party has seen it all and wants to move forward. If a player does not, it is assumed everyone has the common courtesy and will wait.

My point is that neither group should be beholden to the other and the best way to achieve that is rather than “taking a side” is to stop putting cutscenes in the middle of content. The nier raid can be forgiven because Yoko Taro’s team probably didn’t know any better, but for delubrum reginae? Shame on you dev team.

Your wrong.. sprouts who it's their first time there.. who queued into the duty with the actual finder and not roulette have more importance then you or anyone who is there from roulette.

The story is the main focus of this game.. the devs have said as much and forcing a new player to skip the story is just as bad as spoiling it for them.. first timers will always be the focus of the game and everyone else second..

If you can't let someone enjoy their first time threw then your more of the problem then anyone else.. and are purely the reason for unskippable scenes in MSQ.. and will be responsible for unskippables in future content too

I would argue outside of castrum, there are no lengthy cutscenes. 1-2 minutes just isn’t lengthy for me. I am happy to see a cutscene if it is relevant and tells some story. I mean their alternative is to cut the dungeon off and then add a trial for the final boss like the end of Heavansward…fine..but not my taste.

And it revolves around the one who is watching the cutscenes while 3 people has to wait or even 23 in Alliance Raid?

From the devs point of view, yes, it does.

Would you prefer they force every cutscene like prae? Because that’s how that came to be.

Yes. Because, again, you are there for the bonus XP and are getting bonuses on top of that if the 1 player is doing it for the first time. The system is designed to reward you for doing this content again and letting these new players experience it. You are getting way more experience waiting those 20 seconds or 3 minutes depending on the dungeon than you could possibly get in any other method not to mention the tomestones you get for the first time bonus. So yes, when you are getting all that the one who is doing it for their first time should get priority in terms of doing content most of us got to do ourselves.

Ohhh the irony. Because now the "World" is revolving around the cutscene watcher.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Before I start off, I wait for watchers myself. However I've had people pull when I watched cutscenes a few times before but I didn't mind at all. Because ultimately in the end, I don't really miss anything other than a mob or two, etc. Which is no big deal but for others, they act like Neymar and take it way out of hand. It is a form of courtesy but seriously, you're not missing much.

Except that it is because now you come out of a cutscenes into the middle of what might be a mechanic that requires you to be on the other side of the room and die. So yes waiting for everyone to be ready is making sure everyone is on the same page.
