How about letting us upgrade ground-mount speed, to be faster than just flying?

Flying will ALWAYS be desirable, because it's super convenient. You can chill out, put yourself on auto-run, access otherwise inaccessible places, the list goes on.

But there are also a ton of mounts that, let's face it, just look GOOFY when flying. And while I appreciate that at least they CAN fly, I still think it would be great if there were some utility in running around on the ground.

Now, I *THINK* there might already be some form of this in the game already? I know there's a "Mount Speed" window with a bunch of stars in certain locations, but I've never been led to believe it was much of a boost.

What I'm personally suggesting is that, while flying is perfectly fine as-is, that "grounded mount-speed" be buffed up CONSIDERABLY. Not warp-speed or anything, but if flying is like 150-170% movement speed, then grounded mount speed could be like 200%. You might still opt for flying, because it's just easier and you can avoid stuff, but if you're REALLY trying to sprint somewhere, being on the ground would offer some benefit.

Maybe then, I'd be more excited to bust out my SDS Fenrir, which just looks kind of doom when flying, imo.

You get one ground speed increase from the main quests, then you get another from hunting and it makes a big difference to how fast you feel.

Yeah, but flying will still be faster (or similar speed). If mount speed increase was like double what it is, it would make you consider flying or driving to your destination. As is flying wins every time.

I was actually kind of …not shocked…underwhelmed maybe? By how slow my 4 seater car drove through Thanalan even with max speed.

I want to see some massive speed like this.

I think this is actually a really good idea. We skip over so much of the zones since flying is faster, but if we could blitz through on our mounts on foot we can still take in the sights. We might not be stopping to smell the roses, but it would mean we still take a gander at our surroundings while choosing our path.

i thought 1 star was the same speed as flying and 2 star was actually faster. It's just having to navigate the terrain/perspective that makes it seem slower.

This is why you can only unlock flying once you have completed the MSQ for that zone.
