Why is the Cruise Chaser mount from the Mogstation?

Patch 6.1 with it's laughable content update of the Selfie Camera and Twitter integration during a massive content drought, in an expansion that had the least amount of content up to that point? And a few days later they released a brand spanking new store mount for only 25$!

Now let's see. Massive content drought in an expansion that arguably had less content than previous expansions? Another lackluster seasonal event update with a recolor of a mount we already got back in 2017? A brand spanking new mount on the store for only 29.99$! And that is after they already capitalized on the influx of new players by putting boosts on sale.



But it sure is easier to stick your head in the sand.

The funny thing is, the first WoW shop mount came out in WotLK when WoW was on the top of their subscriber numbers. Then came Cataclysm. The game got worse and worse, lost more and more subscribers but they have put more and more payed "services" into the game.



This could happen to FF14 too. If such shop mounts are a huge success then they will become the top priority and SE will propably take away dev resources FROM the game and put them into the Mogrystation.

This is not meant to be a Mogstation evil thread but just trying to see reasons for it being in the Mogstation vs earning it in-game.

Just like the multiple posts of people in here trying to defend the lack of content with the pandemic when content was already missing. Funny how those people become quiet whenever i mention that

No, it's not that. I'm just "scared".

Most of the MMORPGs I've played is the same history:

Start to play > the game starts to gaining popularity > the company release a superfluous item on market for the game, nobody cares > more items added, and 1-2 person start to notice, but the majority say "they just need more money, these items are superfluous..." > more and more items added on market, and the game start to decay > everyone blame the market to have the best items for the game now.

Maybe that was not the case, but I can't help worry.

I don't want to bother reading this entire thread so I don't know if someone has said this, but the cash shop funds go directly to the xiv team and have helped fund making new servers before. Whereas money from subscriptions and buying the game goes to Square Enix and they have taken money before from the game to fund other projects in the company.
I also doubt that XIV will become like that anytime soon. Everything on the cashshop is completely optional, and the boosts do nothing more then get you to end game faster, but you still have to learn your job the same way everyone else does. (Only thing I'm iffy about is extra retainers but you can survive without them) There's plenty of in-game mounts that you need to work towards to obtain and personally some of my favorites (the XII bike, savage mounts like Omega and the Skyslipper, Ozma, the Extreme fights final mounts like the Phoenix and wolf, etc). The game also doesn't constantly push buying things in your face. I personally don't mind throwing the team some money to get something nice every once in awhile.

Twintania and sleipnir mounts aren't obtainable in game. Those are from 7ish years ago.

True, but it's still not very cool to see the same move repeat. I'd love to get twintania after a raid, same for sleipnir. That will probably never happen or i'll just get a reskin. It's not the same thing imo.

One cash shop mount (or even any that followed) were not and are still not what caused problems with WoW. The problems go much deeper than that. Now, offering "free" mounts for locking in a 6 month subscription is an issue, but that's more of a symptom of the game's many issues. They add them to the shop anyway if people don't want to do that.

Well if you like the game you'll just get the mount. It's not like you get only 1 mount for 60$. Meanwile the cruise chaser is worth 2-3 months of playtime. Isn't that a bit mutch?

So would I. I don't own any cash shop mounts. I have the wedding choco and twin, but those aren't technically "Mogstation mounts"


But I'm not going to throw a fit about it here.


I use mainly 2 mounts, the trashcan from the fate boss in 5.0, and my legacy Chocobo.

And, again, as soon as the shop actually becomes predatory and p2w, I'm gone. The devs understand this it seems, as the shop has been largely unchanged for years now.
