If you don't make anymore new content .. sure i guess.Sorry but i do not believe that cash shops are necessary to keep a subcription based MMO alive. I have read an article long time ago. This was an interview with a MMO dev and he said that 50k subscribers are enough to run an MMO. OK, let it be 100k today because of money inflation etc. I guess FF14 has far more subscribers than that.
I wouldn't have any problems with cash shop mounts at all. The point is, i really hate it when someone says something and then does the exactly opposite. When Yoshi-P says that there are not enough developer ressources to do certain things (that players want) then i believe it. But if there are suddenly enough ressources to create shop mounts then i guess the first statement was maybe a lie. But even it was not a lie, it was not honesty.
Cheers

So.. The cash shop for FFXIV directly funds the game as in money that gets spent there gets directly re-invested in FFXIV instead of going to SE's general profits. Or so they say. Our data center migration and other upgrades were allegedly funded by cash shop profits.I wouldn't have any problems with cash shop mounts at all. The point is, i really hate it when someone says something and then does the exactly opposite. The cash shop modeling/animating/art team is also supposedly separate from the regular dev team. So while they may be using a premade resource, it's likely the shoulder riding animations and new texture (or recolor) was done by them and not the regular dev team.
So while them using a mob that's already in the game and selling it isn't what a lot of people would like.. it's not new and it's still well within the expectations they've set.
The standing agreement is Yoshi P gets to do pretty much what he wants with the game, but the cash shop "baroness" is a higher authority than he is and he cannot affect her teams decisions.
SE gets to siphon the FFXIV sub profits into whatever they want but cash shop money goes directly back into FFXIV.
Could be worse but this agreement has stood since the cash shop went up and we HAVE benefited from it.
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
I think the biggest slap in the face is them showing us the event mount, which is just a reskinned version of another mount, and then coming out with this. Funny how they stopped giving veteran rewards because “they couldn’t think of anything to give us.” Yet they’re easily able to come up with mogstation items. Not to mention now just pulling straight models and animations from already existing in game bosses? Pretty scummy.
I think they also stated htey dont wanna add up on the days youd need to be subbed so its not impossible for new players to reach the rewards... yet they went and scaled it down to like what? 20 days for cloud? lol

Sorry but companies do not act like that. They will not say: "Look! The shop mount brings us so much money! Let us use that money and improve the game.". They will say: "Look! The shop mount brings us so much money! Let us use that money and make more store mounts because there will be even more money.".
If there are enough shop mount andys then the development will shift from the game to the Mogstation.
Cheers

Most companies won't take a failed game and sink nearly the same amount of money and resources into it to try and save it either.Sorry but companies do not act like that. They will not say: "Look! The shop mount brings us so much money! Let us use that money and improve the game.". They will say: "Look! The shop mount brings us so much money! Let us use that money and make more store mounts because there will be even more money.".
So while I understand your cynical take, this is what they've stated the profits from the cash shop go to. Notice I say profits. The cash shop team have salaries just like anyone else and they need to be paid first. Then after all that is taken into account, the money is earmarked to go towards whatever improvements the Devs want. Such as the server improvements they're working on now to accomodate the influx of players, or as I said earlier, the data center relocation.
If we got this information from say SE I would be much more dubious about it's truthfulness, but we got it from Yoshi P himself. The one person who from the start has done his best to do what they think is good for the players and does not blatantly lie to us or spread misinformation if he knows it to be untrue. He will use vague language if he's not allowed to say something or he'll skirt subjects he's not comfortable with.. but with the cash shop they've always maintained that it's profits were meant to be the direct success to improvement pipeline for FFXIV only.
Considering the amount of skips/mounts/fantasias the community seems to think they sell.. weird they haven't yet eh?

Just comment here to show that I dont like seeing the CC mount in the Store....
It could have been a great ingame reward.

This is a major disappointment. Cash shop has no business in a subscription based game anyway, but something like this is just ridiculous. Here I thought the toast mount was a low blow given there was a literal perfect quest for it.
ff14 literally prints money. It doesn't need to paywall things.
I also don't agree that this should be a Cash Shop mount.
Wouldn't even have minded to spent months to farm this mount ingame, since it looks so special.
Just buying it tho, makes it a lame mount and I won't be buying it.
