Newish Player up to Stormblood, Should I be doing Additional Content?

Hi All,

Relatively new here to FF14, I’ve gone through; ARR, Heavensward and now I’m at the start of Stormblood. I just boosted a WHM to 70 and a Ninja to 70, I originally had levelled a summoner/scholar & paladin, but was looking for something to take me through StormBlood>Shadowbringers.

My question is – what content should I be doing as I progress through Stormblood>Shadowbringers? I basically just smashed the MSQ, so I’ve skipped the blue quests/retainer leveling/chocobo leveling/Grand company etc.

I read that I should probably get 2 characters as the EXP from MSQ alone will level them both to 80 once I’m done with the MSQ, should I be doing every blue quest? Retainer/chocobo/grand company etc? I hope to do some end game content with my 2 80’s maybe get relic weapon?

Although I’m not sure if I need to do all the previous content to get it once I hit the end of Shadowbringers. I got a bit annoyed at myself once I realised, I probably need to do the blue quests to get chocobo glamour .

The only required side content is the Crystal Tower Raids. Everything else can be skipped. Well at least where you are in the story as you'd of had to unlock the hard modes of Titan, Garuda and Ifrit. It really matter on what you want to get out of the game really. The unlocks range from optional dungeons that would have helped in the leveling process, to 8 and 24 man raids, to unlocking glamor and the barber to unlocking a zone that's just mini games.

Do whatever content you want.
Nothing is "required" except for MSQ and enough of your job quests to have all your skills.

The only thing you absolutely need to do is the main quest with the fireball icon. Blue quests unlock things such as dungeons, raids, classes and game features. A lot of this is endgame content for previous expansions and this content is very good but there is a lot of it, so it depends whether you want to spend a lot of time on old endgame content or go right to the current endgame content at level 80.

Have you tried DoL and DoH classes? Granted they not be the "endgame" but they are a superb way to gain additional items, gear and money.

PS do not be in such a rush to get to the fabled "endgame"

Do the content that sounds fun. Or the stuff with an interesting story. Or sort it any other way you like. Its all up to you.

Though i will add, if you plan to work on relics from the current expansion then theres one bit of content you need to do before you can unlock that side quest. You need to complete the level 70 alliance raids before you can work on the level 80 relics. Those raids will become available to do once you finish the 4.0 storyline. Their starting location is the new hub city for stormbringers, and the quest to look for is "Dramatis Personae" or something close enough to such that i dont feel the need to look it up and correct myself.
