Lack of social skills and friends drove me to play FF14.
- The game’s world is bigger than you’ll be able to crompehend
- Even if you’ve reached endgame and/or reached full gear that’s only a small quarter of it
- It is not so much essentially the game, but the abundance of most player’s positive interactions & the friends you make that makes it worrh living & memorable
- Elitism seems rare or hardly exists; everyone has the opportunity & support to get there & feel contributing just as much ((be it raid, crafting etc,.))
- Soundtracks & simple environmental settings are beyond breath taking & memorable
- You can always pace yourself
- Be able to group with low levels regardless

Co worker got me into FFXIV, but i only play for the story now, i started FFXI two years ago and i am loving it more than FFXIV.

I bought a PS4 in late December 2014. After about a week of two I was bored with the game's that were out and went looking on PSN. I stumbled upon FFXIV's Free Trial (a lot more limited back then) and gave it a go since I was a fan of FF11 as a kid. After hitting the level cap 20 in the Trial I decided to buy the game. I stuck around for a year, but then quit it for several years. But once and awhile I would have random thoughts about it and missed the game. I came back from my long hiatus last year and I got a lot of my friends to start playing it with me. Since then I've been hooked. =]
Past MMORPGs went away from the direction of being an MMORPG into a MOBA or theme park game. The loss of exploration within MMORPGs turned me off. I am the type that likes to learn the game myself instead of watching the video and repeat their strategy. It has been refreshing not to rush through the content.

Long term FF fan (particularly the ones including and after VII), loss of interest in WoW, good gameplay mechanics by MMO standards and also I found the Ascians and Garlean Empire intriguing. Mainly that.
When the game's story becomes self-aware:
A friend played it and got me interested in it. I'm not sure if they still play, but I stuck with it. XD
It was 2013, I had just moved back to the US from Japan, and needed an MMO to play. I'd been playing LOTR since it was Buy-to-Play rather than required subscription so I could afford it on my low Japanese salary and my potato of a computer could run it. After getting a better job in the States, I wanted to keep my language skills up and wanted a game to play with my fiancee (Japanese) so I bought the game, rolled on a JP server, and haven't looked back. I've had to take extended breaks at times, and thought I was done with MMOs at one point, but the wonderful times in ARR and HW (StB can pound sand) kept bubbling up in my memory every so often so when ShB dropped, I logged back in and stuck around for a while. After having to take another break, YouTube decided to start showing vids from FF14 content creators I used to watch, and that was that. Here I am, back in the game and likely to never let my sub lapse again.
