FFXI. Played that from its original NA launch in like 2003 and I'm still subscribed to it.FFXI. Played that from its original JP launch in like 2002 up until during E3 2009 and both Sony plus SE stunned the auditorium with THIS.
The incredible roar from the audience was insane-- I can still feel the goosies till now-- and I've played since FFXIV 1.0 beta launched.![]()

An old friend from SWTOR had been playing it for years, but I never gave it a try because of the artstyle and themes. At first glance this game kind of looked dumb.
I had been hopping from game to game, but I wanted an mmorpg specifically. I thought I'd give FFXIV a try, and liked it well enough.

In my case, it's the same reason I bought FFXI and resub every so often. It's a Final Fantasy game, pure and simple. No deeper reason then that.

The first time I saw FFXIV was around my senior highschool years. But because I was still jobless, i just slowly forget about wanting to play the game until like May, last year. Covid forces bunch of us (myself included) to stay at home and I was about to run out of options of what MMO to play, until a friend that I met in discord VC mentioned about FFXIV. They invited me & 3 others in the same VC start together. And I’ve been hooked to it since then
Feels amazing actually, now that I think back!

Big Final Fantasy fan.
And no lie: the ability to play as really cute girls, hahaha.

I got the game via a Humble SE Bundle with a bunch of other games. Wasn't sure I'd ever actually play it due to the monthly fee.
Finished Lightning Returns not long after and figured I may as well go from FF13 to FF14. Joined in patch 3.1 and have been playing ever since.

Been playing the other mmo since inception and figured I would never play another one. Casual player, love doing runs with friends, exploring, etc.. With the implosion of WoW in it's current state there have been a LOT of messages in the forums about FFXIV.
Out of curiosity downloaded and installed and within a day was hooked. One of those 'why didn't I do this years ago' moments.

Being bored with World of WarCraft and hearing FFXIV was good now. It first went up on my radar when it came out but the reviews were awful so I stopped paying attention to it.
I joined in late ARR.

I was bored with World of Warcraft. So i've tried FF14 because many people said the story is great. The story part is true, i like the Heavensward- and the Shadowbringers story. But the gameplay is very dull and grindy. So i play a new expansion when it comes out. And then i make a two-year-break until the next expansion is ready. FF14 cannot hook me for a longer period of time.
Cheers
Blizzard making a mess out of WoW with Warlords of Draenor along with some developers displaying a publicly nasty attitude toward the beta testers (it had been a major 180 from the generally constructive discussion between testers and developers during MoP beta). I started trying other games.
A gaming friend mentioned FFXIV as a good alternative. I had never played any FF games in the past and didn't care for the art style I saw in screenshots posted online so didn't get around to trying it until Heavensward launch. It helped that SE had announced flying would be added to FFXIV in Heavensward at the same time Blizzard was trying to kill it in WoW.
I found myself playing FFXIV more and more as I played the others less. Finally made this my main MMORPG home just after Stormblood launched and then shed myself of WoW at the end of Legion (about a year later). Wish I had completely quit WoW much sooner but friends kept dragging me back.
