is basically exactly the same thing you do in WoW. I played it for 10 years and even after they put in quest hubs, it was go here, talk to this person, go there, talk to that person, go collect bear asses in this area, go turn them in, etc

The piece you describe having issues with is pretty standard to MMOs.
I forgot to mention this in my previous update more or less saying the same thing.

I won't go into detail but even SE recognizes the problem with fetch quests to the point they make fun of them as part of the Shadowbringer content. I don't recall ever seeing WoW make a similar humorous acknowledgment in game.

@jojoya I was going to quote your post but it was too long and my phone wasn't cooperating. This is my response to your suggestion.

Here's a suggestion instead of redesigning a game that has been out for a good while to make it into something it's not maybe you could start your own game company and design it the way you want it. It comes down to this if you are unhappy find something else that makes you happy there are plenty of other games. Sorry if that is too blunt for you but I see this as someone trying to change this game into something it's not. Why? As someone else said it would complicate things and also it would destroy the community. Because you would be dividing it into different parts which is not the way to build a community. Kinda like wow did with the big gear divide where do you think the term filthy casuals started yes in wow and elitist also a WoW term. I played wow during beta and for years after I quit playing around 10 years ago the community was so divided and toxic because the devs made it that way by catering to one group of players who thought they knew better. While it's nice to ask for things changing the core of the game because a few don't care for it is not a road to go down.

Unlock quests for side content would appear at the appropriate level even if completion of part of the MSQ is normally required first (such as the ARR beast tribe quests requiring completion of level 41 MSQ or doing normal trials in MSQ before you can unlock EX trials).

Duty Finder works mostly as normal, displaying any duties that have been unlocked. Any duty related to MSQ will not have been unlocked so won't appear. Available Roulettes would be affected depending on whether the roulette would normally match the player to a MSQ duty (so Normal Raid, Frontline, etc would be available while Leveling, MSQ and Trial would be locked just as they are locked if on a very low level job).
So they would never get any duty ever? You don't get things like the optional end of expansion content from just levels. You get it from MSQ completion. You'd be removing the trigger entirely.

Also, that's taking people out of queues for content which will hurt the ability to keep those instances populated for new players.

How long do you think it will take these endgame-focused people to complain about the lack of content and whine about the developer time "wasted" on the story? We see this now even with the story required. It would just get worse if people could skip it entirely.

A better idea is for people to recognize that XIV Is not like other MMOs and either decide they appreciate those differences and continue playing or find something more suited to what they are looking for, like others who play XIV have done with other MMOs. It's a very accessible game and it does try to have something for everyone, but it also established very early on that the story it told was a lot more important than what you find in other MMOs. And changing that makes it not XIV anymore. They provided the option, for a price, to skip the story entirely. They don't offer that for free for a reason.

They could indeed. Thankfully though they never will. Like.. we're talking about the development team who very specifically gates flying behind MSQ progression for the expressed purpose of making sure you are on the ground in the map as you experience the story, explicitly because that is how Yoshi-P wants it to work. I say again, they could do as you suggest, but thankfully they never will.

But I just cant stand the main story quest. People keep saying how amazing the story is, just so many people keep saying that. I wish I could see why they say that, are they just parroting what other people say or do they really believe the story is great? To me its just suckfest of crap.

Gave up half way through ARR and bought the story skip from the store then just ground out the levels in Fates. Started next expansion story quest and just more of the same. Port to this place talk to a guy port another place talk to a guy, enough already.
Its very difficult to believe they are not making the story frustrating on purpose to get you to buy a skip.

Well I really like the game better than WoW otherwise. So maybe I will just take a break and come back once in awhile and try to get through the story quest. I know I have the option to buy more story skips but that feels like I am just paying a company for crap product.

Sorry for the rant. I know this is going to trigger some people, and I am sorry, because I really do love the game aside from that.

    Good luck in your travels.
I'm not a parrot and I think the story is brilliant, amazing and fantastic, but it did take time to take hold. Maybe the reason for not liking the story is either you didn't realise how long it would take before the story really kicks in or you made up your mind to dislike it from day one. Either way the story is great. I must have read at least a thousand novels through my life, and to have a story work in a computer game is no easy task yet they owned it with FF14.

    Anyway, happy travels.

Story isn't mind-blowing it's just good by mmo standards and comparable to stories usually only provided in single player games. ARR is the worse of the story which many of us state.

I treat Ff14 msq sort of like a book. When I'm in the mood I sit down and read/listen but more as an interactive book where I sometimes click/press buttons to turn the page.

The story overall has a lot of filler content, but usually has a good pay off which enhances the trails or raids you do.

I don't mean to sound rude, but this is kinda something that doesn't really matter to the majority of people (as in it's not something that's related to them), especially since the post doesn't really say anything new. It's a universal fact that those who quit FF14 during ARR almost always give the same reason (and they usually get the same replies). It's nothing new.
erm... But this is a feedback forum? Isn't leaving feedback a good thing?

Point already addressed in the discussion. TLDR of the discussion: It's not really useful feedback if it's been regurgitated over and over and almost everyone (the devs included) is fully aware of it.
